Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

That sounds great! Is he still thinking of getting rid of this incredibly cool pedal or will he settle down and keep it?

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Did he not just get it???
I got it yesterday for modding:D
Did that today....
And thanks, I think that those old Boss pedals are great to work on, the SD-1 is a real classic pedal, regret selling mine along time ago, had a Japanese one...sigh!

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Nice, Niels. Sounds a little more burly than stock.
I changed the op amp on mine to a Burr Brown OPA2134PA.
Did you remove C6?
What about the diodes? 1N4001's have a nice soft tube-like clip to them.

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

The fatness is from the ampsetting, it is quite clear and crisp, sounds great on the big tubeamps, always how I determines if it is anygood!
No removing C6:)
It is a newer SD-1, they had terrible 4148's....sucked those out in a hurry, in went three FET's instead.
Plugged in a trimmer for the R7.changed the C7, and stuck in a blue 3mm LED instead of the red normal one...looks nice on that yellow thing;)

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Sweet. I haven't tried fets as clippers yet. I wouldn't mind doing so in my DS-1 but I changed the clipping diodes so much in that thing the solder pads lifted. :smack:
Removing C6 made a difference in mine (it's a newer one too). Talk about removing the blanket. ;)

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Sounds great Rid :)

Has a really great tone :)

Thanks bro ;)

Gr8Scott --> Naah I am keeping it, but I am getting a TS-9 as well :D .

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Yeah, thought about changing it, but the FET's cleared the whole deal up...hehe
My DS-1 has Germanium diode instead, 5 I think I stuck in there?!?
Changed all the pots as well in that one!
The SD-1 was nice from start, wanted to keep its signature tone somewhat, it is just right in the mids, open enough, hence the trimmer for the gain.
It can get pretty hairy now, but I backed it off, now it has alittle more gain than before, also plays alittle louder now.
I am going to get one for myself again soon!
Hehe love Boss stuff:D
Bah TS-9 blows;)

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

What does that trimmer pot do excactly? Do I have like 2 gain controls?

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

It shuts down the pedal if EMG, DiMarzio, TS-9 is detected;)
No it is just a variable resistor, and you need to open the pedal and adjust it with a small skruetrækker;)

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Ahh and what does it do?

Hmm, I only have duncans in the Strat, and by now I only have EMG in the Charvel.

Gonna trash some Black Sabbath and Metallica when I get them, its gonna be awesome :D

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Seeing this thread makes me want to do some modding now... Problem is that I don't really have the time. I wanna play guitar and smell solder fumes DANGIT!!! :headache:

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

I liked my SD1. I had a 072 opamp in I think. Can't recall which. But the route 66 with a higher quality 4558 and the bass boost on does the same so eh :D

I picked up as many mods on the net as I could. Someday I'll find a cheap as SD1 and try EVERYthing on it.

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

4558 is not a high quality op-amp by any means...it is a POS op-amp really:D
It is normally found in a plethora of cheap poweramps for cars....hehe
TL-072 is a crispy nice op-amp, takes slamming rather well as it distorts in a pleasent manner.
And the DS-1 is born with a 4558 op-amp, I just socketed AH's, gave him a TL-072 and a LF-353, plus the for some odd reason revered 4558 thingy:D

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

I mean a highER quality 4558...It comes with a DD right? I think I got a P or a D in it. Can't recall. But yeah I found the TL072 more transparent in sound. Does it make sense or was I high? :D It just did sound better, even for clean boosting purposes.
I shall try the LF353 though... I'll see if Maplin has some. thanks!

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

;)
Yeah different grades, louder and more noisefree if the quality is good, but the sound is still that strange annoying middy flat sound.
TL-072 is quite open next to that 4558.
We use its bigger sibling the TL-074 in the AC-Tone.
Otherwise we always use the LF-347 or the dual version the LF-353.

Re: Attention AH^DK...SD-1 mod clip!

Wassup Niels, when can I pick it up? I want it :D
