Automotive cleaners on guitar?

Hello all.

I was wondering if any of you guys have ever used automotive polishing compound or swirl remover on your guitars? I know that in the early days, Fender used to buy automotive finishes for their custom color guitars. Are modern poly finishes sensitive to non-silicone auto cleaners/polishes?

Re: Automotive cleaners on guitar?

Meguiar is great stuff for amp vinyl and guitar finishes. I used step one cleaner and step two polish, but hold the wax.

Never used anything but automotive cleaners polishing compounds and wax on my guitars. Haven't used anything else in the 40 or some odd years i have been playing. Use the same products I used on my Black show cars years ago.

+1 on Maguiars. Cleaner, swirl remover, and a polish named something like Show Finish. Not 100% sure of the numbers & names, but they're good products.

Turtle wax compound on a 70's LP copy... much improvement

Not really the most modern finish though

I've never actually thought about it, but now I am intrigued. I would also like to know product names.

Well, got a bottle of Meguiar's "Mirror Glaze" tonight. I'm going to try it out on a Epi LP first. I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
