Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

I have never tried an Avatar cabinet but i hear they are nice. It seems like a really good deal, 500$ for a custom 4x12 with great speakers? Im sure they are good cabinets and are putting out a very good product, especially for the price, but are they just very good for the price or are they really as high quality as cabinets costing up to twice as much? I mean in sound, not in looks, that is. There must be some compromise in sound to have the cabs be THAT much cheaper! Has anyone A/B one with a Marshall or Bogner or ENGL etc.

they're pretty high quality cabs

i own one & have zero complaints

i would own 2 but someone sold me a 2x12 combo for $30 so I'm using that as a cab

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

They are so low in price partially because they aren't a household name and don't advertise all over the place. The cabs are made of voidless Baltic Birch (just like Marshall cabs for one), and are very well built. Absolutely excellent cabinets, especially for the price range.

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

The only place where Avatar cuts corners is in the attachment of the speakers. Rather than using bolts and threaded inserts, the speakers are attached by drywall screws. Other than that, they're comparable in quality to good name brand cabs and better than lower-end "name" cabs.

ahh, who cares how they're attatched, they're fitted on their tightly, aint goin nowhere, and theres no rattle or tone loss

I know a guy with a 2x10 and it sounds great.

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

cool...i've really never heard any real problems or substantial complaints about avatar cabs ever...i figured that their bass cabs would be good to!?

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

They're good well built and real clean inside. The speaker grill cloth, the tan stuff, is a bit cheap up close, but whatever. The black tolex is perfect.

I didn't know that they only used drywall screws to hold the speakers in. That could become and issue later, if you're playing gigging volumes.

Their 2x12 is a few inches bigger than most cabs. They ship quick, too.

I got a Celestion Vintage 30 and one Celestion G12H30 70th Year Anniversary Special 12" speakers and I'm guessing they are made in China. The speakers have Celestions address in England, but the don't say made in England or made in China.

nope, done it a bunch, it's fine

if its really bugging you that much, go to the hardware store & get nuts & bolts, should be like $3

Running a bassman through their is good enough for me. I'm leaving it well enough alone.

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

I think the best part is the choice of speakers. You don't have to settle for what a big company produces, you can make your own sound.

I have played mine head to head against a marshall... no contest hands down better tone than that marshall. Granted it wasn't their top of the line cab, but I believe it was still well over $500.

I have also played a Mesa 4x12, but not side by side. Those Mesa's have serious low end chunk... maybe too much. I was glad to get home to my own cab.

I seriously look at them as right up there with the high end cabs that Marshall and Mesa make... at a fraction of the cost.

By the way mines a 4x12 Vin.30's and G12H30's. Carpet with the metal grille... it's a beast.

Re: Avatar Cabinets, how good are they really?

I love my avatar. It's well-built (as everyone says) and it sounds great. I A/B'ed it against my friend's Randall 4x12 and the avatar sounds a little better in comparison. I have Eminence V12s and Celestion 70/80s in mine and I love it.

Peace.
