Avatar Cabs vs. Mesa Cabs

Compare the avatar v30 2x12 to the mesa recto 2x12.

Which is better? disregard cosmetics.
Purely tone, reliability and construction.

I believe the materials are comparable. As for construction, I suspect the Mesas get the nod. The one nit on Avatar's construction is that the speakers are screwed into the wood without the benefit of lugs.

As for tone, that's a matter of taste.

Well, they have the same speakers.
And the style is more rock/metal.
Like Dream Theater to Children Of Bodom to AC/DC.

I've owned both and IMO Mesa is better made, and Avatar is well made but a better deal.

Even though mesas are VERY well made they've gotr this weird midrange property that I do not like.

I've never owned an avatar but I've never heard a bad thing about them.

I like Marshall cabs the best as far as tonal properties.

I had an Avatar 2x12 that had a V30 and a G12H30 in it and it was closed back magic when coupled to the Rivera KH55 I was using. I got a TON of complements on that rig every time people heard it.

They're good for some things, but aren't my bag. I'm more of a CL80 kinda guy.

I had an Avatar 2x12 that had a V30 and a G12H30 in it and it was closed back magic when coupled to the Rivera KH55 I was using. I got a TON of complements on that rig every time people heard it.

I like the tonal variation it looks like this could produce.
Some subtle niches throughout the spectrum then some different harmonics up top...
intriguing

If I go avatar I mite get that combo...

I like V30s in Marshall cabs a little better than in MESA cabs but i generally just don;t like V30s. I like greenback types better.

I'm thinkin 2 2x12's.

1: Vintage 30, Black Shadow 90.
2: G12H30, Vintage 30.

If you can afford it, don't cut yourself short by grabbing the Avatar.

I have a Mesa Recto 4x12 and I love it. It sounds great.

or
G12T-15 and Greenbacks

would be my suggestion.


You could always buy a Mesa cab with an agreement that the store exchanges two V30's for two other speakers of your choice.

If you can afford it, don't cut yourself short by grabbing the Avatar.

I've owned both and prefer the Avatar - better sound and build quality, I even prefer the Avatar over the Bogner cab I was using.
