A friend of mine (a professional guitar player) told me 'bout this amp (avt275) a give it a lot of good reference to this amp, including that he's using it for recording in studio for some artist (he's a studio musician) and he prefer to record with it vs the jcm2000(dsl)

so, how you compare the AVT275 vs MG100, because the price are very similar, but with the MG I got a Half stack and with the avt275 I'll a 2x12 speaker...

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

stay away from any amp in the MG series.

worst marshall amp ever produced

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

Sorry mate, but i am honest when i say NOT noe of 'em !!!

I'll seek a used Marshall DSL401 instead ! GREAT VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY !!!

Here's one for $305.00 USD - http://cgi.ebay.com/Marshall-JCM-20...ryZ38075QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If possibel, aviod the MG/AVT series - please !

I have to +1 him there... those are both pretty low end amps...
Also the tube of the AVT is said to be more of a marketing gag than anything else by those who have already switched them out...
I'f you want a small combo amp, get the DSL40... it will still be louder than those two.

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

There isn't too much difference between solid state and hybrid amps. If you are ok with the solid state sound, these amps could be worth considering, but for tube amp responsiveness, no hybrid or tube-emulating solid state technology comes close. That avatar always cracks me up.

AVT's sounds much better than MG's

I disagree. I find that MG's sound much better than AVTs. The AVT's seem to have a nasty "fizz" to them that I cant dial out. The distortion on an MG is, to me, at the very least usable.

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

I'm going to give the same response as everyone else. Don't get either
The mg series and the avts are a waist of time and money. For just a little bit more you can get yourself all tube heads and a nice cab. Or if you are willing to go used and are patient you can find something really great for a little bit more than an mg.

I've seen more than a few people get duped into the mg100 "it looks like a stack" mistake. It's basically marshall preying upon the uninformed. Don't do it.

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

The AVT isn't horrible but it isn't something I'd ever own.

The MG works for cleans, and by works I mean just scrapes by. For distortion it makes me cringe.

I think they both have fizz. AVT just sounds better to me, even if the tube doesnt do much.

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

I've played pretty extensively through an AVT combo (can't remember which) and I thought it was rather good sounding. It is not a tube amp, so don't expect it to sound 100% like a tube amp.

Re: AVT275 or MG100 (MARSHALL)

The reason that the Marshall hybrids and solid state amps have gotten a bad rap is that most people who have purchased them are looking for "Marshall tube tone" on a budget. You can't really expect these things to have any tube tone. However, for those who know and appreciate solid state tone, these are in fact some of the better options available.

I am in agreement with this. They're not real tube amps. If you expect a tube amp sound from them, you'll be diasppointed. Tone is subjective, it's different strokes for different folks.
