Aw Yeah, the Pearl Dust Fenders!

Re: Aw Yeah, the Pearl Dust Fenders!

Which side of the pup is Custom 5 and which is 59?

I was told that my pickup has a Custom screw coil and 59 slug coil with A5 magnet. I'd like to know if it makes a difference which one is closer to the bridge? I don't know the answer. Having mismatched coils somehow gives a more 3D sound and a bit more growl, from what I hear when playing it. It's definitely a killer sounding pickup because it bridges the gap between the 59 and C-5, but has something different going on than either of those pickups....like more note bloom or something.

The only difference i can hear is when used in split mode ! the custom coil sound good even when used with a a5 mag :)

I love traditional SSS a lot, but I have 2 strats like that already, and also a tele.
The HS setup turned that strat into a whole new guitar.
It has turned it into the Joe5 Strat...a compliment to the J5 Tele of John5 :D

I'm playing the guitar right now, and am realizing something about the sound. When you take out the middle pickup, there's a little less magnetic stringpull than on a normal strat and the chords ring better. Also, the middle position is very much like a tele in the middle pos. I'm psyched about this pickup too, and am seriously considering more of them. I have to hear it in a LP.

By the way, I was in GC Sherman Oaks one time and John 5 saw me playing, and I started talking to him, then we had a little guitar duel, where some of the employees gathered around to see it. We have a similar rock/country style, and we were throwing out our best licks. Until I sat in front of him ripping out some licks, I had no idea how diverse he is. For him, putting on makeup and playing metal is like a joke and a paycheck.

Another time, I saw him in Hot Topic at the Northridge, CA mall, buying some things. When he walked in, all the people tripped out that he was there!
I think everyone that works there worships Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie.

I've been wondering that too... like if it was better to put the higher output coil closer to the bridge to compensate the difference of output a bit... dunno

Cool story!

Yeah...he used to play with K.D. Lang...lots of other alt-country acts too!

Guess that explains the Tele with a Bigsby & buckers huh?! :laugh2:

That black Strat looks pretty sick...I dig the blue one a lot too! Got a 70's vibe with the black/white plastic combo.
