Never played one but i always loved the design. Whats the benefits of the extra strings? Is it like full cream milk compared to lite? More full and bamoish?

It's tuned like a 12-string, but the low "E" and "A" aren't doubled. Supposed to eliminate muddiness when using distortion, but still give "fullness" like a twelve.

Probably not great for soloing, but BAM for rhythm! :fing2:

I had an original one briefly back in the late 80s. It was from the early 80s. Just like Paul's, but mine was walnut, koa, maple body...ebony board. The whole reason I wanted one was because of Paul. It was a fantastic build and player, but all the switching drove me nucking futs. Pre amps, splits, phase...It also weighed a ton. I traded it in after a couple weeks, IIRC.

These days I would enjoy it more. Id like to have one again.

Edit- I never strung it up as 10, and apparently neither did the guy who owned it previously.

Volume for each pickup, Master Tone, 3-Way Toggle. Then there is a mini for coil split on each pickup and another for phase reverse. The chickenhead is a varitone.

All right... so here we go so far...

First of all... it looks SPECTACULAR! The "Dragon's Blood" color has a depth that is just uncanny, and then with the black stringers, pickups (Duncan Designed HP-102's... or JB/Jazz made in some other place), and rings... and then the chrome hardware, pearl cloud inlays, ebony fretboard, and cream binding are simply perfect together. She's GORGEOUS!!

Okay... on to the other stuff. The bummer is that, when I was bringing it up to pitch, I busted the high G string. Fortunately I have a ton of .009s and, after 4 tries and some saddle-burr filing, I got it to stay. The final time I also tuned the whole thing down a full step (D-G-C-F-A-D). What sucks is that, being tuned down that far, the intonation is all off so it doesn't sound very good. Tomorrow I'm gonna bring it up a half-step and strum it for a bit, and then Thursday I'll try to bring it up to pitch and properly intonate it. It's fussy like a 12-string in that respect, but I'm confident that with a little patience I'll have her sounding great when it's all done! I was gonna take it with me to band practice tomorrow night, but I'll wait until I have it right to show it off to my bandmates.

The neck feels great... even with the extra strings taking up space. I have a 12-string Ovation acoustic too, but this neck is MUCH faster... it's a BC Rich, after all!

I'll keep you guys posted over the next few days on how it goes... meanwhile here's another pic...
