I forgot to mention the Peter Green Les Paul! It was on display at the show. Looked like the original...I think it was on loan or something.

Gary sold it :(:yell:

Gotcha. It sounds good to my ears whatever it does. Damn the wife-inflicted-gear-restriction. :laugh2: :laugh2: I'll just have to be patient and wait until the end of the year.

Amy seems like one of the coolest wives around! :laugh2: Didn't she buy that Brobucker for you? Lew

Wow! So that WAS the real Peter Green Les Paul I saw at the show...

Thanks, she is great. Yes, she did get me the Brobucker. It was a reward for several things. One, for putting up with her being out of work until recently and also for my 8th month milestone of no more smoking. The Tele I have coming is an early 1 year, but I paid for that. :laugh2:

I don't know if it was the real one Lew, but I suspect so...Gary sold it and was playing some kinda Black flame custom shop Paula at the recent tribute to Phil Lynott.

I suspect that Greeney is plumb wore out by now...he's broke the neck and headstock a few times, among other things...prolly been refretted 15 times too :chairfall

Yeah...it looked like it had been played and played and played and played! :laugh2: It was great to be able to inspect from a few inches away, although it was in a glass or plastic case. You could still get right up to it though.

Originally they said you'd have to make an appointment to see it...but then they put it on display for all to see.

I also got a chance to check out Junior Brown's Guit-Steel at Micheal Steven's booth. That was very cool too!

I envy you...out of all the Les Paul tones I love, THAT guitar (and Gary) created the very best ones ever (IMO of course). I'd love to have seen it that close up! :bigthumb:

Re: Back from the Dallas Guitar Show...and some observations about tone:

Thanks for answering my question guys. Lew, are there any plans to make an even lower wattage combo or head, like five or eight watts? I think 18 watts may still be a bit too loud for the bedroom. I'm salivating over the description of this amp and I'm thinking I may be better off selling that 50 watt Bassman clone I have that I was going to re-speaker, and just get a lower watt amp that I can actually USE! Something around the volume or less of my 65 Champ or Univox U45-B

Re: Back from the Dallas Guitar Show...and some observations about tone:

Maybe?? I"ll tell ya what, that 18 watter can push some air, and some buttons...LOL. It could easily be used for club gigging, which is what I plan on using it for if I can get one towards the end of the year.

I thought there was a smaller one next to the 18 watt at the show but that could've been another 30 watter.

Edit: Just FYI, Lew's PC crashed so it'll be a few days before he's back up and going here. Bruce was on earlier. Maybe he'll chime in later.

Yeah...my computor crashed and needed to be reconfigured. It should be back in service friday night. I'm not ignoring all the PM's that are stacking up, but I can only get online once aday or so. Sorry! Lew

Re: Back from the Dallas Guitar Show...and some observations about tone:

I need to make this part clear in the begining because there are quite a few variations of the new Aurora amps... all the Aurora amps have the killer boost pedal!

For you Erik, the 32 watt reverb chassis already has provisions so it can be built at 18-20 watts too.

We designed the reverb chassis to be modular from 15watts (if using cathode biased 6V6s) right on through to having 6L6GCs in fixed bias at 50 watts but all those chassis are made with the single coil/humbucker select switch, Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Reverb, Master Volume and Spirit controls.

The other big box 12" cabinet you liked so much has the smaller chassis installed but is also modular.
It will go from 8 watts to 20 watts, but it does not have provisions for reverb nor the other three features.
It does have Volume, Treble, Bass and Master Volume.

The smallest combo amp you saw in two tone vinyl was what we loosely called the 12x12. 12" speaker x 12 watts.
It has a 12" custom made WeberVST ceramic speaker and is built as a 12 watt chassis.
As before, it does not use the reverb chassis.
It has our custom made 15 watt Output Transformer, the 20W Power Transformer, a NOS 5Y3GT rectifier and a pair of 6V6s in cathode bias.
That same amp can be reconfigured to about 8 watts output by pulling the 6V6s and just plugging a simple pair of NOS 6K6GTs in!
Its a Rockin' Dog!

Thanks for that explanation, Bruce. That's the exact info I was looking for. Awesome. I see an 18 watt with reverb in my future. :)

Edit: Now, what's the Spirit controls? I didn't check out the 30 watter close enough to see that. I like that the reverb models have the full tone stack. The 18 watter I played through is great as-is. It's a well rounded great sounding amp.

Gonna make an Aurora head Bruce???

Re: Back from the Dallas Guitar Show...and some observations about tone:

from ya'lls descriptions...these Aurora amps sound pretty sweet!!!???

The Spirit control is an old idea Lew and I used to use on the Crusader amps where it is similar to a presence control but it allows for a much much broader frequency range of apparent mild gain, harmonic looseness and tonal relaxation.
An aggressive player with heavy pick attack and a hot set up pickups would roll this down while a light picker with low output pickups or less aggression would open it up.

Yes...a reverb head and 2x12 bottom package is right aroudn the corner.
We might offer this as a 1x12, 2x10 and 1x15 cab also.
We tried to get that 2x12 head and bottom thing to happen for the Dallas Guitar show but KC, (the master carpenter who runs MOJO's cabinet shop).... couldn't guarantee the delivery of the head and bottom cabinets in time for us to build the amp, mount the speakers and chassis, work out any minor bugs and drive to Dallas.... so we told them to hold off until we get back from the show with some customer feedback about that package being an interest or not.

I like the sound of that. You need to bring the Aurora to the Arlington Guitar Show in the fall. It's bigger than the Dallas show, more vendors, and sponsored by Vintage Guitar. You guys would do well there.

I know of an existing customer of yours who's interested in a head and 2x12 bottom.

I actually had a nice long talk with Bruce last night...he's about to give my Twin the Mission Amps Treatment then we are gonna talk Aurora!

Nice! I'm sure that baby will sound sweet when he's done with it.

It's gonna be a long 6 months or so but I so want one of the 18 watters with reverb. Since Bruce said that chasis is modular to accomodate a couple different circuits, I know exactly what I want. *Sigh* And the wait goes on...lol.
