Back to the roots?

Something Cool
Am I just change-resistant. Is all of this good?

I always idolized some of the usual Stratocaster artists, namely Blackmore. My first electric were Les Pauls, and today I have what is a fine set of Les Pauls, especially my old MIJ ones. I made many strong pushed to Strats, the newest one driven furthest with a CS 1969 model with 2x surfers and a Fender CS texas special in the bridge. Several attempts at Blackmoreish pickups failed, but I did keep a LCR filter (like his "MCT" circuit). Still, the LP feels like home.

I like the 5 and even 6 string on a bass, but now that I had to take a break I just don't feel it anymore. I have not been able to develop a preference for a particular style of bass, I still like split style precision, my thunderbird, a good stingray if I can find one and especially my cheap dumb corvette. But bothering with more than 4 strings? I can't feel it right now. The exception is my 6-string Bongo H, but that is mostly because I have a strange attraction to Bongos and the 4-string just doesn't have enough meat with that small body and 24 frets.

I still have my old Marshall. I bought a Shiva because it "technically" does what I want better. I just dunno. **** better. I have ENGL's blackmore model right now, I dunno but the Shiva is on the way out. The ENGL is a bit closer to the Marshall, in a strange way.

I feel like doing a big rollback and push out a lot of things that I moved to in an attempt to "improve" my gear.

Also, APH1s are *the* humbuckers.

Re: Back to the roots?

Don't get rid of anything you can't replace. Otherwise, go with it. Sounds like a killer setup that should be able to cover whatever ground you feel like treading.

You got a couple good pedals to return to, also?

Re: Back to the roots?

I'm actually going home next week and I'm gonna sell my Peavey Windsor amp. I don't know how much I'll get out of it, but if I have enough I'm trying to decide between upgrading my amp or buying a used baritone or seven string guitar.

Yeah. I have some pedals that I like. But more importantly the other stuff also distracted me from toying with the pedals that I already own. Might be a good opportunity to look into that. For example I have a CS-2 but it just doesn't work for me, I need a different compressor. Yet somehow that had gotten blocked as a project.

Re: Back to the roots?

I did this a few years ago. My first good rig was a Recto into a Recto 4x12. Over time I decided to experiment, sold that rig and then spent several years trying to make everything I got my hands on sound like a Recto.

Then one day I woke up and realized what I was doing. I now use a Recto into a Recto 4x12.

I did pretty much the same thing with my JMP... luckily I never sold it, it was just shoved at the back of my storage unit. Then one day broke it out again and found what I had been looking for.

Funny enough now that ive moved to Europe Im looking for it again. I dont want to import my JMP but finding a clean one here is proving... disheartening.
