Bang for your buck amps

If I had to buy a combo for band and home I'd personally consider a used peavey bandit. Just saw a local listing for $250 and it looks mint. Don't have to mess with tubes. Could use with pedals or not.

I recently got to jam with a drummer and other musicians and I just quickly grabbed my Ross tiny 10" combo and a pedal and it actually worked ok. I realized quickly I'll need to push more air, but I also realized I love combos for the grab-and-go aspect.

My buddy got a Bandit 65 a few years ago from a NY shop for $50 shipped
UPS threw ithon the poarch from the yard and left

Box was thrashed

Amp was fine
Well the original speaker was blown
i dont remember it it was a scorpion or black widow
But the basket was broken

A CRex was the same price as repairs
So it rocks a CRex now

Sounds great he has gigged it for years

Ain't much bang these days for decent gear. The blue collar working class is being systematically squeezed out of the music gear industry by $4500 tube amp heads & $15K Murphy Brazillian LP's.
But you can buy $1200 epi's & squires which are $300 guitars at best.
In the 70's you could find Gibson Les Paul Customs for about $400.
These days pawnshop are the worst place to by music gear.

Back in the seventies my first guitar had action way too high to play
neck was super wide
No one i knew could set up a guitar

It was horrible

Today there are tons of less expensive great gear
For uner $500

It aint Gibson or Fender or Marshall
but its good gear

Maybe you should go back and read the entire thread. Not only did people make sub-$300 suggestions of great amps, but most of them play, the amps they suggested.

I don't take un-solicited advice.
U do U bro.
Im a member here and my opine is valid. Its my forum too.
Im also more than twice your age with way more experience stfu noob.

You might as well have posted "Get off of my lawn you damn kids!!!" with an old man shaking his fist gif.

This is $369 at Sweetwater
- The neck is freaking awesome. Compound radius neck, smooth, slick low profile shape. Jumbo frets.
- The pickups are similar to Duncan distortions, hot bright and crunchy.
- Floyd works just fine
- Arched top

I have gigged the crap out mine. So unless the issue is you don't have the chops, this will do anything an LTD at 2-3x the price will.

As for Pawn shops - every one of these bought at a Pawn shop. Only paid more than $299 for ONE. I have replaced the pickups and that's it. Three of them sound and play as well as ANY of my Les Pauls. Mincer has played the black one and will vouch for it if you don't believe me.

Oh - and by the way...just for context...I DO own a Gibson USA Custom shop Murphy aged by Murphy.

While pawn shops aren't what they once were, you can absolutely find great sounding/playing amps and guitars for not much $$ today. Technology marches forward, and if you want to play old music, the old gear is still out there. But for those advancing forward, I welcome the technology that gets cheaper every year.

Considering this is the "bang for your buck amps" thread, I got my first old Traynor at a pawn shop in the 90s for $50. It was one of the smaller size heads, I think a YBA something, 50ish watts. I played it for years and it was awesome. I wish I still had it. 13 or 14 years ago I needed to keep up with a loud drummer, so I traded it along with $300 for the 100 watt Traynor YGL-3A mkIII I'm still using today. So I have $350 in it, which is about a tenth of what I've put into my VHT including the initial purchase. They're still a good value today at $600ish. The VHT rules for distorted sounds but the Traynor has better clean tones hands down. Loud, reliable, great pedal platform.

Pawn shops aren't what they used to be, but those old Traynors are.
