Baritone bridge pickup?

I'm thinking about replacing the bridge PU on my George Lynch Baritone guitar and wanted some suggestions. Its got a JB which has too much high end in this particular guitar, but nice harmonics. I'd like to find something that is still pretty hot, has more bass/ low mids and still has nice harmonics. Maybe something that has a rounder sound but still has a nice chunky bite and great definition. The guitar is mahogany/ maple neck through with a rosewood fingerboard and Its a 27" scale neck. There is no tone knob nor do I want one. What pickups should I be looking at?

Re: Baritone bridge pickup?

I think a Full Shred set would work really well in a baritone guitar, but I don't know for sure. I've only tried EMGs in baritones, and they worked well, but I have a feeling you're not looking for actives.

What amp(s) do you have, and what are you playing?

I'm running an Egnater/ Randall MTS setup with about 10 Salvation and SG preamps. And I'm not sure how good the EMG's will sound clean? I'm using this guitar for a wide verity of sounds and music.

I really like an EMG 60 for clean tones, but for variety you'd best look elsewhere. If you want something hotter an Alternative 8 might sound cool, but I don't know how it could handle the low tuning. I personally would get a medium output bridge pickup and let the guitar and amp fill out the rest. Somehting like a 59/C Hybrid or a Screamin' Demon in the bridge might sound cool.

George Lynch baritone has a single coil sized humbucker in the neck position, doesn't it?

That said, I think a Dimarzio Evolution would work well in the bridge.

Re: Baritone bridge pickup?

I have an alt 8 in my les paul baritone, its very thick and chunky with great definition, while still being very fluid and singing. alt 8 was made for low tunings.

Re: Baritone bridge pickup?

Ok, so I'm down to an Alt 8 and a Full shred, but can't decide on which one. Which one is better for clean sounds? Which one is less muddy? I find there to be a little mud with the jb, but it has nice clean tones.

Re: Baritone bridge pickup?

Not to confuse things, but I think that either the Custom or Distortion would give great definition at lower tunings. Both are very tight. Both have usable clean tones.

I don't think either one would be muddy, but the full shred tends to be brighter and more scooped while the alt 8 is thicker and has deep low mids, so maybe a little darker.

+1
I have 2 guitars tuned 2 steps down and the custom is THE pickup for them.
