Bass amp needed.

O.k. check this out. Im a full time student at UTEP, and I barely get any hours that I can work, so in return I have little cash. Im looking for an amp thats big enough to play out with because my 45watt minx(early 90's) can just keep up with the band. I need something bigger even a head. I play a 4003 Rickenbocker through a digitech overdrive/distortion pedal and sounds fantastic. Im looking for something along Franz Ferdinand tone. Any suggestions? :blindfold

Ashdown MAG 300 would be my choice. i tryed the 4x10 combo and will definitely get it(or head+4x10). Nice range of tones and loud enough for any taks i can think of. Not too pricey either.

Re: Bass amp needed.

old Peavey heads can usually be found for extremely cheap used, and they sound good enough for the money. i got a Mark VI a while ago (250 watts solid state) for $150 used and it's served several bands well enough. plus, they're very reliable, so it's not like you're likely to end up putting more money into it in the near future.

well i have a peavy 4x10 from like the early 80's. My brother said it can take 300 watts. So I guess I need a head.

Re: Bass amp needed.

Got me an Ashdown Superfly... 2 x 250 watts at 4ohms if you got 2 cabs, or just run it at 250 watts with 1 cab.! It's a compact head.. about 14" deep x 10" wide x 3" high (Approx), and comes with it's own carry pouch thing. It's programmable.. I can get so many sounds with this amp I love it. I'm not a bass player... infact until this week I've never played a bass.. just fancy a change as I'm a guitarist in a classic rock band (and have quite a few guitars etc but am fed up with the same old crap from the band ref gigs). These little amps are on special right now both in the USA and the UK, for the money I really can't see how you can beat them! The bass player in my band is p!ssed coz my rig sounds better than his Mag 500 (or 600?) head, Ashdown 2 x 10 and Trace 1 x 15. Mine is the Superfly into a trace 4 x 10 and a 1 x 15... it blows his away coz with the programmes I get virtually any sound I want with my Sandberg bass. Really worth checing these out dude... cheap as chips!!

In the UK it's the big music stores that have them on special, so I guess it'll be the same everywhere.. search the local BIG stores. Musicians friend? Just do a search for Ashdown Superfly and see what comes back.
