Bass cab recommendations

Hey guys, I recently got my first bass (a Sandberg basic) .. got an amp (an Ashdown superfly) and need a cab. I know that to use the 500 watts available I need 2 cabs @ 4ohms each, but an 8 ohm cab will be fine, it should give me about 175 watts. I got this amp coz it was cheap, compact and when i tried it against other Ashdowns and Trace sounded pretty good. I really just want 1 cab for now and have been looking at the following:

Trace Elliot 4 x 10
SWR Goliath 4 x 10
Ashdown EBM 2 x 10 or 4 x 10

I don't want to spend a fortune, so manufacturers like Eden, Ampeg etc are out .. I only got a bass to play about with, but I want something that's gonna sound half decent. Any other cabs I should look at? Doubt that I'll be buying new either, looking for a used bargain. Thanks for any help.

Re: Bass cab recommendations

Personally, I love 15s.

Does your head handle 2 ohms?

If you're looking at 4x10s, I'd look for a 4 ohm, front ported cab that can handle at least 500w. I can't imagine a new-er 4x10 not handling 500w, but...

As much as I dislike SWR the company, and the reliability of the SWR heads I've owned, I really like the cabs. I've got an older Goliath II and an older Triad (15+10+horn). Those are cool cabs.

If your head only goes down to 4 ohms, look at an 8 ohm cab- that'll allow you to run 2 cabs if you're looking at a bigger rig some time down the road.
