bass compressor

Hi to all,

Can you guys recommend me a good and reasonably-priced bass pedal compressor? Can the mxr dyna comp be used for bass guitar? You see, I'm a guitar player but I'm trying to help our bass player make his bass sound more pronounced and cutting thru the mix during live situations. Thanks in advance. :)

Re: bass compressor

A compressor pedal will probably do the opposite. The only way for that to happen is to get a bigger bass cabinet or really expensive tuned cabs and possibly a bigger rig. If the place has a sound system make sure he goes through a direct box and into the board for a better mix.

There is just no such thing as magic in a box.

Re: bass compressor

The easiest thing to do is to EQ more mids into the tone. It's completely contrary to what tone you want to hear- I'm assuming his EQ looks like a smile, a lot of bass, low mids, higher highs...

The mids are what cut through, the bottom gets lost to the drums and the highs get lost with the guitars, vocals and keys.

If you're (he's) like me, it's not exactly the sound you're looking for- but it cuts through the mix.
