Bass Drum Mics?

So the general concensus is the SM 57 is the Industry standard dynamic mic for micing guitar and instruments in general (at least the most popular anyhow)

So i'm wondering what the 'industry standard' is for micing Bass drums?
an SM 57?
My budget for this would be about €200.
It will be only used for a bass drum so i'm looking for a mic specifically to bring out the charachteristics of a bass drum.

Thanks in advance guys! :fingersx:

Re: Bass Drum Mics?

NO NO NO 57's are not used for kick drum mics. Electro-Voice RE20's, Shure Beta 52's, AKG D112's, AKG D12E's are some of the most common.

Re: Bass Drum Mics?

I wouldn't use anything but an AKG D112 or an Audix D6.

Both will double nicely as a bass amp mic.

Re: Bass Drum Mics?

I've used AKG D112's, Audix D6's and Sennheiser 421's on Kick drums. All with good results
