Bass wiring help

Just picked up a Toby IV standard and having an issue with one of the controls that I hope someone can help with. It has a master volume, blend, bass cut and treble cut. Unfortunately, the bass cut is the one that doesn't work. When fully on, the signal comes through. However, turning it 10% seems to kill the signal entirely. Settings on the other pickups don't seem to matter at all. My inclination is to replace the pot, but I don't want to go down the rabbit hole of randomly trying different things.

Re: Bass wiring help

The first thing I did was check the connections and make sure that the questionable ones were fixed.

Re: Bass wiring help

Pulled the pot and it goes to infinite resistance almost immediately. The cap also looks partially damaged. The label reads 2A1021, couldn't find a reference to it in a brief search, any guesses as to what the value would/should be on a bass cut?

ideally.. if you had a dmm that could read capacitance .. that would help

Cap was shot, replaced it with a .047 that I had laying around. I'm guessing that the original one was a higher value, as there isn't a huge effect on the tone.

Comparing the official Epiphone website demos of the Standard and Deluxe models immediately makes apparent the benefits of the higher output, noise-cancelling pickups and active EQ.

If you are content with the basic sound of the stock pickups, consider upgrading the controls. Since the instrument is drilled for four pots, I suggest going to a three-band EQ system that employs a stacked treble/bass control.

Judging by the official video demos, the Toby Standard makes a good basis for customisation. Obviously, there are numerous options to suit your pocket.

Honestly, I like the tone of it as it is right now. At some point down the road, I may want to change it, but it's a solid little piece for the price. Especially, with the discount that I got on it.
