Basslines Active Jazz AJJ microphonic. help!

Hi,
Brand new here, but hoping for some tips/help.

I have as Jazz modded a couple of years ago with STC-2 and active jazz pups AJJ-1.

The neck pup has gone microphonic, to the point that a slight fingertip tap on it picks up as a nice pop through the amp. I suppose that could be usefull, but I think I'd rather not have it this way.

So I am thinking to try to pot it with wax, I see plenty of directions to do this, and feel like I could do it, or I might just take it to a shop and see if they can do it for me.

My questions:

1) Will this even work? I thought they are already potted, maybe something came loose, though.

2) Can I get a replacement for it, it is just the NECK, and I have only seen Active jazz in sets or the bridge for sale.

3) I am not stuck on the idea that it has to be replaced with the same AJJ model pickup, is there another active or passive that would be a good match? Woud a passive pickup in the neck even work in combination with the active in the bridge?

Thanks, I love this bass and the sound of the basslines in it, and hope I can get some wisdom from the good folks here.

Cheers,
Didi

welcome to the forum!!

its usually not a good idea to mix passives and actives, it can be done but is usually not worth the trouble and the results are usually not what you hope.

you should be able to get just the neck if you want

im not sure what happened to your pup to go microphonic but re-potting it in wax might help. it depends on what went wrong. if you can find someone locally to do it then i might give it a try

Thanks for the help. From what I have read & heard I don't hink I want to to try to mix a passive neck pup with the active bridge pup. So I will try to fix this one.

I figure I have little to lose by trying to re-pot the neck pick-up. So I will give that a try.

And I think I should be able to get just the neck, too, but I haven't been able to find one locally or even on line. Do yo uhave any suggestions?

Contact any one of the dealers on the forum. They are (in no particular order) Matt at Martin Six String Customs; John at Wymore Guitars, and Lew at Lew's Guitars.

They'll all provide you with great prices and excellent service. Good luck, bro. :burnout:
