Basswood - Underrated?

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

I like it. I have 2 guitars made of bass wood, both are bright and resonant, but they both strats with high mass tremolo blocks.

Hehe. Well, if I had one and liked it, I probably wouldn't do anything to it (except bobbin toppers, maybe).

The PBK is a nice one indeed.

I swapped out the pink pups for a black PAF Pro and a Breed bridge, just swapped the cover on the middle single.

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

Simple. Use Fernandes Sustainer. There is a video of Suicidal Tendencies demonstrating Fernandes Sustainer. Hit a note, go the kitchen and make a cup of coffee, come back and the note is still singing.

Big difference between natural sustain and a Sustainer. Sustainers are very artificial–cool to play with but they don't reverberate like natural sustain nor do they sound natural because of the lack of decay.

^ And even then he is contradicting his argument that you don't need sustain.

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

Most people are not faster than John Sykes or Yngwie Malmsteen, both of whom employs singing NATURAL sustain in certain situations.

WTF at 2:06? its like the note keeps ringing after he has moved his hand. OMG

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

It's entertaining how one insists on 'going natural' while at the same time actively engaging in endless discussions on tone-manipulating gear on on this forum.

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

true, the whole thing is mutual-contradicting.

Yeah.

Insisting on 'natural sustain' (as opposed to artificial sustain by a sustainer device) while spending time and money on gear.

Devout commitment to 'the importance of sustain' while praising the efficacy of epoxy as a quick fix for faulty fret.

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

^ Well, that was never going to last long.

OC, if you think artificial means provide the same results as natural ones you are sadly misguided. And I'm not sure how spending money on say a nice uncluttered amp or speaker is somehow contradictory to 'natural sustain'. In fact it is part of the chain making sure the nuances of your playing is translated as accurately to the air as possible.
But I come from a world where simplicity and restraint rule. I'm not sure nuance is something you strive for so perhaps you can't grasp my type of playing and rig.

Re: Basswood - Underrated?

Yes, it allows a signal from the pickup/guitar that wouldn't perhaps get the amp going in lower volumes to be louder.
