Basswood vs Agathis

What are the differences between basswood and agathis bodies?

I have a duncan distortion in my tele custom which has an agathis body. I'm thinking about putting the same pup in a basswood guitar (sterling JP50) along with a jazz in the neck.

How different will the duncan sound in the basswood as apposed to the agathis?

Re: Basswood vs Agathis

Agathis has similar tonal properties to mahogany. Basswood sits in between mahogany and alder. The DD should sound just fine in your JP50.

The only thing I have to say of both woods is that to me, neither sound good with Strat p'ups.

Both have a "plastic-y" quality that bothers me to no end.

I could personally verify the statement by building a strat using the same neck and the same loaded pickguard, just changing bodies.

YMMV.

I don't think Agathis has the sustain of mahogany ,More Airy tone ,Kind of like what a light weight wood usually does
Im curious if anyone actually built a guitar from Agathis to compare for themself ?
Not just relying on what is sold as lower end guitars ...Squire,Bc rich.............
