Thanks for sharing photos of that particular Gotoh Floyd bridge from the '80's. I bought the very same bridge at Guitar Center in 1988 for a Warmoth project guitar that a gentleman who worked at the Fender Custom Shop in Santa Monica put together for me. So I can confirm that it wasn't limited strictly to Gibson guitars. This luthier instructed me to get the Gotoh because it was cheaper than an actual Floyd, yet great. The design of this bridge really is different than anything else I've seen online (both new and used). The block is tapered, with "fingers" of the bridge wrapping around it. I wonder if that might contribute to resonance? Granted, the block mass seems perhaps smaller than others I've seen online as well (not in person). Hard too say what the end result is, sonically, compared to other Floyds. Would love to hear someone's opinion on that.
