bassman, showman, bandmaster.....which ones float your boat? bassman is a 50watter i think, so is bandmaster, and showman is like a twin-85 watts.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

i love my bandmaster. Its a 40 watter though... The cab has altec lansing 600b speakers in it too.

I'm curious about the showman, I've always wanted to hear one.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

it doesn't matter much, but you left off the Tremolux :)

I played a blonde one from '61 or '62 once. I'm still moist.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

The Showman uses four 6L6 output tubes and has the biggest output transformer and most output.

The Bandmaster uses two 6L6 output tubes and has the smallest output transformer and the lowest output.

The Bassman uses two 6L6 output tubes but has a larger output transformer than the Bandmaster and more output than the Bandmaster.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

I vote for blonde Bassman. :)

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

how does the transformer to tube output ratio affect tone? For example, how does a bassman compare to a bandmaster tone wise as a result of the greater output on behalf of the transformer?

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

how close to twin tone is the showman besides the no reverb aspect? Does it overdrive easier, have a different character, etc....who's played both and lived to tell the story.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

I really dig blackface Bandmasters. I've never played a blackface Bassman to actually compare though.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

I have a Dual Showman Reverb. Excellent amp, as long as you only want it to give you cleans. Obviously, excellent reverb (c'mon, it's Fender) and very nice tones. I just put a pedal or two infront of it when I want to dirty it up. It doesn't break up at all until around 7, and even then its very light. When it does breakup though, its nothin to be too proud of, as it gets pretty muddy and undefined.

So, as a recap. When a Showman is being used as a clean amp (as it's intended) it's excellent. I'd put it up against any other.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

what year is your showman mojoe01? Blackface or silverface? Do you use distortion or OD to dirty it up? sorry about the barrage of questions im curious. the guy im buying from, Paul, has a bassman, showman and bandmaster so i want to decipher which is the best.

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

Mine is a silverface, the guy I got it from wasn't positive on the year, but he said he knew it was somewhere between 71-73. I use a tubescreamer for a nice bluesy overdrive, and a modded boss ds-1 for the heavier stuff (thank's mr spina!)

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

ya think a blackface would have smoother overdrive? It's 85 watts, the silver face is alot more i think...

Re: battle of the Fender amp heads

I've played thru all of Em' Showman, Bandmaster reverb, Bassman and yes'
Curly... a tremolux (ya had to remind me :saeek: :laugh2: ) I gotta go with
the bassman. Not as loud as a Showman, But the bassman seems to be
more powerful to me. ( If that makes any sence?) I had a chance to buy
a Tremolux for $300 w/t the Cab around 10 years ago. :smack: It sounded
sweet But needed muchco TLC. Now I see em' going for over a grand ?? :duh:
I bought a Musicman head instead. :duh: :banghead: :butkick:
