Definitely EL34's, although I like the 6550's which I tried with a Zakk Wylde JCM800 too.

Someone should outline the tonal differences of all these tubes, I'm only familiar with EL34's and 6L6's...Of the two I prefer EL34's.

I'm a big fan of the EL34 sound, but I like 6L6's too. One day I want to have a marshall converted to take 6L6's and see how it sounds.

Depends on the amp and what kind of sound you're after, but my #1 favorite tubes are probably Tung Sol 5881s, which are getting very hard to find and are very expensive.

I like the sweet midrange and breakup of EL34's, but 6L6 do have great punch, headroom, and low end. But still, EL34's are my favs at the end of the day...
