What is the difference between 2 channel and 4 channel, why do you need the extra 2? Do you run it right before the preamp, plug the guitar into it or what? I need some clarification. Thanks.

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

you run it right before the power amp ... last thing after any and all preamp/effects

good luck

Ok so.... Wah--->Tube Screamer--->Noise Suppressor--->Sonic Maximizer--->9200--->JMP-1--->1960AV?

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

sorry, i dont think that i know for sure exactly what a JMP1 or a 9200 is .... and i think i know that a 1960av is a cabinet, right?

if a jmp1 is a preamp and a 9200 is a power amp, then the sonic maximizer must go between them

if this is wrong, let me know what they are and i'll tell you if i can help

hope this helps
cheers

It should go:

Wah--->Tube Screamer--->JMP-1--->Noise Suppressor--->Sonic Maximizer--->9200--->1960AV

Not quite, you want the noise suppresor AFTER the preamp in most cases.

Wah--->Tube Screamer--->JMP-1--->Noise Suppressor--->Sonic Maximizer--->9200--->1960AV

...Should get you where you wanna go ;)

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

Arite, sounds good. But what would be the advantage of putting the NS-2 AFTER the JMP-1 as opposed to how I have it? And I'll go JMP-1--->NS-2--->BBE Sonic Maximizer 462--->9200--->1960AV?

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

The reason for the noise supressor after teh Jmp 1 is that the preamp is whaere you get most of your noise from. If I'm right, the Jmp 1 has an fx loop and the noise suppresor and the BBE should be run in the loop and then the power amp hooked to the speaker outs of the JMP I

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

If you have rack gear and a seperate preamp and power amp The BBE unit will work better between the preamp and power amp and not in the loop. The reason being that loops are a unity gain device and effects loops often don't work well when the gain at the return jacks is higher than the gain at the send jacks. The BBE sonic Maximizer can add gain at higher processing levels. This added gain can cause extra noise as well as howl and screeching problems. Compressors and EQs in an effects loop can cause the same problems

Preamp - supressor - maximizer - power amp would be the best way to chain it together.

If you are running a head/cab rig it's better to loop the BBE than to front end a rig with it but you have to watch your settings. If the amps starts to act funny and exhibits unwanted noise and squeal, back off the BBEs processing and it should clear up. With my Triaxis/2:90 rack I run everything post preamp and I don't use the loop at all. This way I don't have to split my loop send or lose stereo imaging because many effects processors will sum the outputs when only one input is used.

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

Yea, U have the head \cab setup so that is why I run it that way. I have never had any problems with it in my loop tough, the signa' from the loop makes the the input meter on the BBE go up about a third of the way and is nt where near clpping.

It was hard to run pedlas in the loop with the BBE though, so I had another lop put in the head, one is line level and the other instrument level so that I can run everything at the proper levels.

Come to think of it, back in the day when I had an ADA\poweramp setup, I remember my BBE sounding like crap in that loop, but that loop just totally sucked no matter what I had in it.

Re: BBE Sonic Maximizer users:

Oh and to answer one of you original questions, You can actually use the 2 channels if you are runnign your rig in stereo. Most pre\power amp setups I have seen are run like that , why I don't know,

I have never seen a 4 channel BBE. YOu can also usne the 2 channels independantly of each other, like I had mine in my switcher and had one channel for clean setting and the other for my distorted sounds. I beleive the best model out there for rack setups right now is the 482, that's what I have.

Oh and there are 2 models as far as the output jacks too, I know one has balanced outputs It think and one has unbalanced, or something like that.
