sc245. total les paul killer and made MUCH better.

Not bad for an uninspired take on an old design. Fails to adopt many of the superior features that most LP's have.

Hamer USA.

If Hamer USA is an option, the answer is always Hamer USA.

And I don't even own one, currently.

^ not even close to the same thing

Les Pauls aren't shrinkwrapped in plastic like Paul Reed Smiths are ;)

You should go play one bro....i bet it would surprise you.
That whole thing about PRS guitars being ornaments is complete BS. I find that guys who bash PRS's typically can't afford one or are close minded. Funny how most PRS fanboys, including myself, own guitars from multiple companies.

A sc245 is IMHO a very viable les paul alternative.

PFFFT!

What "superior features" are we talking about here? Have you ever played a PRS SC?

I've owned a PRS and used it as my main gigging guitar for about 2 years.

While I will always say that the PRS guitar was awesome, even the SC models really are there own thing. It's a great guitar, if that's what you are looking for, but a Gibson has a TOTALLY different feel. When I had my PRS, I used an SG as a backup, and ended up replacing them with a LP, because I loved the SG's vibe, and the LP just gave me more of what I loved.

Not knocking PRS, they are great, but they are not the same thing as a LP. The Gibby just kind of is it's own thing really.

He had a POS. It got sold. And I would say people with Gibson money have POS money

And really, when it comes down to it, why buy another company's interpretation of what you want for the same price, or more, as what you actually want? Why buy a VW with a Porsche engine that costs the same as a Porsche?

I'll take the close minded option. I own $2k guitars that are wrapped in poly, but they don't suffer from the pretense of "trying" to be something else or "competing" with something else. As a manufacturer, you can't really win the Les Paul game if you're not playing it.

So while I'm sure the SC 245 is a fine guitar, I'm less sure that it would sound and feel more like a Les Paul to me than an actual Les Paul.

Re: Beating Out a Les Paul? (poll)

I´d go Hamer USA but they might not be your thing.

I agree with fuse...

IMO on a set-neck guitar, if you like how it sounds, the neck feel is most important after that.

If you try them all surely you´ll find something that stands out in your own mind.

...if that doesn´t work save yourself some money and pick an Epi LP. :joke:

Ok...this is a good answer and to an extent i would say i absolutely agree with you. when you want a les paul sound....get a les paul. I still own a les paul, and when i want "that" tone.....it obviously does it better than anything else....including my singlecuts (which are more well mannered, refined and hi-fi sounding). So I see where you are coming from: why get another companies take on a lester when you can get the real deal.

that said, if someone wanted my opinion on another companies les paul type guitar, my suggestion would be the sc-245. does that make sense?
