Hey all...I Know i'm going to get a bunch of different suggestions on this(Maybe not though?)

Anyway...My buddy bought his son an Epiphone Les Paul Jr from Sam Goody...He's looking for the best little bang for the buck beginner amp to go with the guitar in the less than $100 range...If any of you just went this route, please let me know what you bought...There's tons of stuff out there right now and we've been looking at Peavey,Drive,Fender, and the Marshall stuff...

Sure could use your help guys! Thanks
John

I've got a little Ibanez with reverb here that I'd sell him for $75 bucks plus shipping (no more than 15 bucks)

If he doesn't want to buy a used one like mine (my son played it about 20 hours before I gave him my Ampeg Jet), then I'd say check out the little vox pathfinder with reverb. They're about 125 bucks I think.

This little Ibanez is a great starter amp. I only gave my son the Ampeg because I had to get it out of my music room to make some more (and hiding it from his mother!).

the peavey "Rage" amps are pretty good. and pretty cheap for a used one.

I thought the little gfx15's with built in effects were decent.... not bad for such a little amp.

I've got a peavey transtube 258 EFX http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_id/107291/src=00631 that's pretty fun, it has a bunch of built in effects (flanger, delay, octaver, touch wah, reverb, rotating speaker, chorus, phaser, and tremolo) so he can have some fun with it. if he is willing to buy lightly used (i hardly use it, it's mostly a dust collector since i got my pod xt) i'd consider selling it. let me know.

roland microcube.....
they sell for $125 but i was able to haggle GC (know the salesman) for $105....i know it's a bit over the $100 budget but i have owned several small but not necessarily inexpensive amps (tech 21/10,frontman 15 and frontman 25, fender tube champ) and for the price, i think the microcube is a very good deal. it's not leaving anytime soon !

Re: Beginner Amp For My Buddie's Son? Under $100

I would say Roland microcube. Good, realistic amp modeling, lots of sounds out of it.

Re: Beginner Amp For My Buddie's Son? Under $100

I had a little 15 watt marshall SS amp for a while. I think it was the MG15 cost me like 80 bucks like 3 years ago.

Re: Beginner Amp For My Buddie's Son? Under $100

get a used behringer blue devil this is one of the coolest little amps ive ever played has a wide variety of sounds and effects that are actually nice and its very cheap.

I started out on a Crate and I think there is some pretty good sounds that can come out of them. Not great, but you really can't find a great amp for under $100.

At $99, the Cube 15 is a better buy IMO than the Micro Cube. It has two channels but has greater potential in the parental irritation department since it's a fair bit louder than the Micro Cube.
