Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

If you don't know about this guitar, it's a strat copy, with 3 single coils. However it's unique, because it has an integrated USB module, so you can use an ASIO driver to use virtual amps etc. The pickups on this guitar are pretty weak.

I've ordered a double fat Strat pickguard (the iAxe is slightly different, but I can cut it a little), and I need some HB's. I was thinking of getting an Invader SH-8 for the neck, and an SH-5 for the bridge, however I'd like some input on this. This is my first guitar/PUP change, so I'm not sure if I'm heading in the right direction as to my PUP choice.

I play just about any genre of metal you can think of, from Metallica, to Cannibal Corpse, so I need an all rounder set of PUPs. I know Seymour Duncan produce the best metal HB's, so I thought I would check here.

You might want to try to find out what kind of body wood you have there. I couldn't find anything on the body wood, the neck is maple of course.

Does it make a huge difference? Every review I've found, no one can really identify it. I can take the pick guard off and take a look, however, I don't know what I'm looking for.

You're using an Invader Neck model, not the bridge model, right?

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

Haha, yes, I will be. However my main question is, is there a better passive set up I can get? I'm not sure how these would go together.

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

Yeah, I can't find anything on the body wood either.. could be plywood. If that's the case, go for the Blackouts.

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

They are active, but usually actives are better when the wood quality is subjective. ;)

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

It's a passive guitar. How easy is it to make it into an active? Just remember, this is my first PUP change.

Is it just a matter of getting a 9v pack thing, and having it accessable so I can change the battery? Where abouts does it hook up to?

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

Ok, I've got the whole 9v thing sussed. This is starting to look like a major project :|

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

If you buy an EMG loaded pickguard you won't have to do anything at all but screw it in. I'm pretty sure that the battery has a spot under the pickguard. You could even sell off the EMG in the bridge and plug a Blackout right in it's place if that is what you prefer. The only downside is that when you change batteries every couple of months (6-12 months for me) you have to take out the pickguard. Someone might need to confirm if this is all true, I haven't used one myself but I'm pretty sure those preloaded pickguards store the battery under the pickguard.

cheapest one i could find:

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

Hell, I figured if I was going to go with those active EMG's, I may as well just get the black outs. So I've ordered a 3 way switch, a HH strat pickguard, and a set of black outs. Will post pics when everything arrives.

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

So everything has rocked up now, however the pickguard that came is the one on the left, and the one I wanted, was the one on the right.

I filed it down, and it looks alright, however I don't think it's right. So I'm going to order a new one, because I don't want to assemble it all, then have to redo it in a week.

Re: Behringer iAxe393 HH mod (strat copy)

Ok guys, it's all done. However, I think I messed something up. Neither the volume or tone knob seem to do anything, and the 3 way switch does the following:
Up: everything is off
Middle: plays clean
Down: plays clean

Have I mixed a wire up or something?
