I was thinking the other day about my ultra-g, and I think you could probably still get a halfway decent super low volume thing going on through the speaker where it'd be pretty quiet in the room, but you could still capture the direct sound from the speaker out (it can accept the speaker level, just be sure to then connect it to the speaker cab) into the DI for passing through a cab sim for recording. If you're getting your distortion from preamp tubes or a pedal (which most of us do), it should't be too big of a deal to play really quiet. If you're using a 1-12" you could even jam some pillows in front of the speaker to reduce the room volume since that's not what you're going for. I was gonna try this soon...
