Being happy with the guitars you got

I've got more than I need, and less than I want.
I've managed to hit my sweet spot and I'm going to ride it for as long as I can.

Have accumulated a good-sized fleet in 45 years as a pro player. I've got a number of beloved favorites that I play often.
But I also own many each of a handful of models - Strat, LesPaul, Tele, etc. - so I periodically rotate through the less-played guitars.

Nearly all were carefully chosen for liveliness, and over the years many have been tweaked for tone to suit my rig and my tastes.
There may be a few relatively inexpensive ones, but aren't any duds in my collection.

When I pull a guitar out of storage after not playing it for six months or a year, it's like a second honeymoon.
They inspire me all over again - I'm reminded how nice each one is and all the reasons I loved it enough to bring home.

That doesn't mean I've stopped buying altogether; even now there are a couple I want. But there isn't anything I still need.

Even so I'd like to have an electric 12-string, perhaps a sitar guitar to have that flavor on tap once in a while.
Maybe even a pedal steel to play around with. Or an actual sitar.
A close friend just bought a 60s vintage ES-345 that's pretty sweet.
Have often felt it'd be cool to have an old EB-3 or other short-scale Gibson bass.
And I've kinda wanted a Hamer Scepter since the 80s...

I own about 40 guitars and play maybe 5 regularly. But most are studio guitars that do one thing nicely -so they are not really. owned to use a lot.

but yeah, I have a problem.

I’m in an odd and unique situation-in that my wife is a bit of an enabler, and often encourages me to get guitars I don’t need.
I’ve had stretches with just a couple of guitars, and other times where I’ve been fortunate enough to have a LOT of them. Most of them are of the dual humbucker variety, but when they start adding up is when I start getting away from that: a Les Paul, an sg, a prs, a v, an explorer-then get a p90 Les Paul, then a tele then a strat. On the lookout for something with dynasonics, maybe a jazz master….
so yes I could be happy with a minimal Arsenal, but when I build it up I like to make sure I get a lot of variety.

I'm gonna be completely honest here: Yes - totally happy.

If you said "No more guitars ever Bob" I wouldn't care. That said, I LOVE guitars and would always love to have this one, that one, or another one.

But I have already started making my "short list" of keepers for that day when I start really shedding the gear.

I'm content but never completely satisfied I've got 4 electrics, one in pieces ATM (I just need to get off my ass, rout the bridge and reassemble it) & 2 acoustics. 3 of the electrics I'm totally satisfied with but there will be no love lost if I got rid of the fourth. 1 acoustic I'm totally satisfied with but the other is a classical and I would like to get a better quality guitar to replace that.

EDIT:
OOPS, I forgot the Ovation acoustic that is really my most played guitar, I play it everywhere around the house and yard & occasionally on trips because it's the quieter of the two steel strings I own.
I am satisfied with this guitar.

I'm happy with the guitars I've got. It's more than I need. Two strattyish guitars with different pickups, a semi-hollow, a teleish guitar, a bass, and an acoustic. While I wouldn't turn down a screaming deal on something, I don't pine away for or wish for anything else.

I'm too OCD about keeping my gear and my chops in tip-top performance shape to amass too many instruments. Anything I own is another set of maintenance items so I have to be prepared to take that on. I also spend time playing drums, keys, MIDI sequencing, singing, beatmaking, and songwriting, each of which comes with its own set of gear and tasks in order to avoid mediocrity. There's just not enough time to be collecting, and the OCD simply won't allow stuff to sit there. Except the saxophone... dang, I've been putting that off for a minute :11:

My guess is that anyone that spends their free time on any kind of music gear forum will never be completely satisfied with their music gear. We can delude ourselves but there's always more to explore.
No kidding. I have a tele that I use moderately. Not a ton. Then I saw an esquire for sale the other day for a decent price. I have no use for and little desire for it-and I already have a tele. But I’m also following this esquire, because I have a problem.
