USA new, I'd mirror everyone here and say Carvin (although it's pretty easy to feature creep which will significantly raise the price, "Wow a Spawlted Maple Top! Wha, wait, why did the price suddenly increase 4bills?").

Used market? Take your pick, with the big F and the big G flooding the market there's SO many GREAT guitars that are never given a minute's thought.

Carvins are every bit great used as they are new and still pretty inexpensive for what they are, there's always Washburns which are incredible guitars, my favorites being the 1993-1995 MGs but I'd love a US Idol too, Peaveys have been solid solid performers too, I'm still remembering a no-frills black Basswood Wolfgang I played well over 5 years ago plus I'm willing to bet a dozen or so others that I'm not remembering right now.
