Re: BEST 5w ALL TUBE AMP

i like the valve jr, but you might crave more tonal options than a single volume knob can provide

Re: BEST 5w ALL TUBE AMP

you could always try the Zvek half-watt tube amp! that way no one can complain when you've got it cranked. i hear its surprisingly loud too

Reeves Custom 6 combo. Sure, they cost $640, but still.

A friend of mine has the push-pull Swart amp and swears by it daily! Here's the 6V6se. (warning: don't click on link if $$$ are important to you ;) my buddy bought his used after searching for a long time)

I want a Fuchs Lucky Seven. It has a classic rock marshally sound to it and you can use either an el34 or a 6v6 for 7 or 5 watts respectively.

Re: BEST 5w ALL TUBE AMP

people will complain if you have the zvex cranked! awesome amp and a lot louder than you'd think.

Re: BEST 5w ALL TUBE AMP

I like Fender Champs and Princetons. Layla was recorded with a Fender Champ. Look for a Champ on Ebay and compare prices. Buy a nice one for as little $$$ as possible and you will never lose money on it. You'll be able to sell it for more than you paid for it if you keep a few years. Anything new, you'll lose money on if you decide to sell it...it'll just be a used amp, whereas 60's and 70's Fender amps will continue to appreciate in value. Lew

i could be your long lost son or something, any drunken one night stands back in may/june '76 in upstate ny?

hey its like this, i got good ears, you got good ears and they seem to lead us to the same conclusions. :) which just re-enforces the fact that we are right :bigok:

Re: BEST 5w ALL TUBE AMP

Add me to the Champ list, you may also want to look at the new Champ 600(5w, 1-6v6, 1-12ax7, Diode Rectifier) for about $200. It sounded pretty good for a 6" speaker.

+1

You may be looking for something short-term but a Champ for a few years is going to have the added bonus of building in value. Even the silverface ones that everyone claims were junk are acruing over time.

Plenty of one night stands in '76...but none in New York! All in the Detroit area.

LOL! Lew
