Best Acoustic-Electric guitar for under $1,000?

Re: Best Acoustic-Electric guitar for under $1,000?

I am going to say get a K&K Pure Western Mini ($100) and put it in whatever acoustic guitar you like the best.

I have heard a few of them just just straight up sounded better than normal under-saddle piezo transducers.

beandip will chime in here in a minute - he just put this pickup in something and kept me updated on how it sounded and all that, and he was basically astounded.

I say go with whatever you want :)

"Blindfold and a billfold" - never order an acoustic guitar off the internet.

I like Takamines at that price range.

However I love Taylors a little above that price range.

I speak to the 'Dip regularly. I have his blessing to rock out on cheap acoustic guitars :headbang:.

he told me about the pickup.

kinda seems like they have strat necks

I'm an Ovation fan, myself. But stay away from the shallow bowl models. They sound okay plugged in, but by themselves they sound tiny. They'll also tolerate a LOT of abuse!

Re: Best Acoustic-Electric guitar for under $1,000?

Last I checked for that price wouldn't a Martin come with HPL or some other stuff like that? I think Astro wants solid wood.

You can get a 1 Series dread or OM with solid BS BUT Stratabond neck.

You can also get a Custom D Mahogany or Rosewood (At least I think that was the name) that's full on wood. There's also a more expensive version that goes for about 1400 with full gloss finish and other stuff...

I was looking for one a while back and picked up a Yamaha. Great guitar for the money imho. I love mine.

True. When I was checking out for an acoustic I researched Martin, luckily they have a search by price feature. Must have missed those or forgotten them by now.

Re: Best Acoustic-Electric guitar for under $1,000?

Well the 1 Series are kinda new so maybe that's why. And the Custom D's are like the Gibson Traditional Pro and Studio Deluxe I think...you know those Musician's Friend/Guitar Center only type models...so that's probably why you missed them. I dunno if they show up in the Martin website but I'm sure the Gibsons don't show up on the Gibson website, only on MF and GC.

I'm still waiting on someone to give the import Guilds a nudge. Haven't played one but I only read good stuff about them.

Re: Best Acoustic-Electric guitar for under $1,000?

The Guild GAD series, Breedlove imports, Seagull, Takamine, Martin D16 cutaway electric, some Ibanez and some Yamahas would fit the bill.
