Best acoustic for $$$

Re: Best acoustic for $$$

i'm a huge Takamine fan for an acoustic for not alot of money especially used!

Taylor is my absolute favorite acoustics...followed closely by Gibson Hummingbird's!

The Yamaha "Silent Guitar SLG-100" sure sounds great, at least from what I can hear here: http://www.planet-guitar.com/tests/yam_silent/yam_slg100.html

Just click the picture with "Hören". But of course it isn't a "real" acoustic, because it has no soundhole, but maybe you can call it a "electric acoustic" ?? I don't know if such a guitar has a name, anyway, it sounds great. it is kinda expensive though, around 1100$ I think. At least here in Denmark.

I'd say a Taylor if you're looking for a professional instrument. Lew

How would you compare Martin acoustic guitars to Taylors... I've often wondered which might be better sounding (tonally) and thought the difference might be compared to that of Gibson/Fender guitars, but I could be wrong.

I think that Taylors might be better made, but Martins have so much history, no?

Higher end - Takamine or Taylor.

Lower-end - Washburn, Washburn, WASHBURN!!! Fantastic guitars for the money, esp. the D10 range. I have one, and it's the only acoustic I'm ever gonna need. Got it for £200 (~ $350), and it whups the ass of many more expensive acoustics.

Re: Best acoustic for $$$

time for a monkey wrench...
personally I think Taylor makes a great $1500 guitar but when you get much above that I think there are scores of better choices. They are consistent and they are good but I've never played one that I felt was magical (and I did own a 915 for a while). We really are in a golden age for acoustic guitars and there are some amazing small shops and individual luthiers who make guitars that will bring tears to your eyes. They aren't cheap but man do they sound amazing...
check out a Lowden, a McElroy, a Collings, a Weber, Santa Cruz, and even Goodall for the lower end prices of that level guitar. For the upper end - Olsen, McCollum, Ryan, and there are lots more in across the various price ranges (from about $2K - above 10) and styles
if you're looking to stay under a grand, check out the Blueridge guitars, they are an amazing deal. Also the lowest model Larivees, the Martin 15's and the Taylor 200 & 300 are all good buys.
