best active neck pickup for cleans

Re: best active neck pickup for cleans

It's been awhile since I had a 60, but it's a good neck pickup. Try lowering its overall height. Then experiment with the treble side. First, set its height even with the bass side. If it still seems too trebly, then set the treble side lower than the bass side.

that's improved it a bit it's not too trebly and doesn't break up but isn't as warm or deep as it was

I would look at the livewire II classic neck: http://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/livewire-ii-classic-hb-neck. it doesn't get a lot of love on here because its been overshadowed by the blackout models but it is a great choice.

I also used to really like the 60a and think the 66 might be a good pick. I have never been super impressed with the blackout neck models and have tried all the blackouts up to the jeff loomis/dino retribution models.

I have a temporary fix until I can replace it
I'm thinking either the Jeff loomis neck pickup or the livewire ii Classic since the mick Thomson bridge is apparently good to pair with the mick Thomson neck pickup or the livewire ii Classic neck pickup

I had the 60a in a guitar a few years back and it is noticeably warmer sounding than the 60. I preferred it for pretty much everything over the 60.

Yeah I'd upgrade to that when I have the funds then

Re: best active neck pickup for cleans

My ibanez is naturally quite bright sounding due to the maple and walnut neck, ebony fretboard and swamp ash wings

Boring ole' 85 is anther possibility. It works really well in the neck of some guitars, but you might have to lower it more than normal to tame the output.
