Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

Oh man, this is disappointing! I see your point in worrying about the well being and security of your 5150, but I think you would be much happier playing through it at any gig rather than some cheap distortion pedal and the Crate Power Block. No distortion compares to the 5150 at any volume, so find a solution (power conditioner should be available for you) and use it!

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

hmmm I think the whole point of the 5150 is that it is an affordable giggin amp.

If you want to sound pro, you can't get anything of that level much cheaper say a Crate Blue Voodoo, which is not metal, or a Carvin, also NOT metal.

If you want something easier to watch over, get a Mesa PreAmp like a TriAxis.

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

^ he wants something with less volume too and yer right those are not extreme metal amps

I say go the cheap route, get the extras for the 5150 and consider disguising it somehow when you use it (tape a crate sign over it or something and lock it up in your room in your closet)

lets say you got the 5150 used for $400 everything else here suggested is gonna cost half of that or more...

I had the same issues in the past since thieves are rampant in my neck of the woods; I wanted a dual recto but said no since my friend had his ripped off...

good luck!

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

You're not going to find a cheaper metal head than a 5150. Other amps that are cheaper just won't give you those extreme metal tones. Get a hot plate and look up some UK guys for a power regulation/conditioning product. If you're that worried about it getting stolen, disguise the amp.

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

No need for a hotplate imo... extreme metal is about pre amp distortion not poweramp break up...
maybe pull two tubes ...

IMO the 5150 sounds good at practically any volume. Its low volume tones are really rich in my experience.

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

Just keep your eyes on the 5150.... your guitars and pedals are a lot more likely to get stolen than the amp.

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

Yah guys, again.. i gues you didn´t get me
i want a 50 watts combo, to play live and, when i´m not good to bring the 5150 to rehearsals, rehearsals...just in case i can´t use it where i´m going to play. like a bad grounding place etc.
a laney or crate or marshall combo i´m thinking.
which ones do you recomend?

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

Ah, thank´s Man
i´ll give it a try
But, here in brazil, everything is ****ing expensive, you now..
one of those line 6 spider amps, costs the price i paid for my 5150 HEAD.. like 3000 brazilian money

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

I´ll really have to narrow the choice to a marshall, crate or laney, that are the brands most easy to find here in brazil.

Re: Best Amp/Brand for Extreme metal?!?!?!

I wouldn't go for the Marshall or Laney SS amps, I have very bad experiences from both of them. From those three I'd probably go with the Crate poweramp to use with the L6 pedal you already own. The cheapest and simplest solution IMO.
