Best Amp For Jams

So you want to run in, set up quick and start jamming... perhaps you just wanna show up to an open mic and play a little electric at the cafe - which amp do you bring?

MOST LIKELY a combo. 1x12? Something light, toneful, tasty, with enough volume. Perhaps a speaker out so you can use a cab if it's there???? hmmmmmm

Without breaking the bank I would hope.

Ideas?

Re: Best Amp For Jams

Easy, all of your reasons you just listed are *exactly* why I bought a Fender Blues Jr. It's everything you said. Small, 1x12, portable, light, just disconnect the speaker if you wanna hook it to a cab, great sounding and flexible (I used mine for jazz band!) ...it's everything you need and you can snag a used one for a miraculously low price.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

depending what's going on; a Peavey Bandit (69$) or a Fender 30 1x12 combo (150$)...everything else is in storage unless I'm gigging.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

Celtic Franklin 1x12. 2xEL84

4 knobs. Vol, Treb, Bass, Master

All you need.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

My Traynor Blue. Despite being 50 pounds, its the only thing I own with any tone whatsoever.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

I really wanna try one of those Franklin's Scott, those clips on your site sounded amazing.

Marshall 18 watt combo is a pretty good one as well. Loud, as portable as other 1x12 combos, with a great Plexi-like tone.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

Just about any decent 1x12'' fits that category. Best is too subjective. I really like my little Crate V32 Palomino so I'd go that route, but I'd be perfectly happy with a Fender Blues Jr. or the like.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

That was the scenario I bought my Princeton Reverb for.But that was back when they could be had for around $300.:)

No bias there....:chairfall

The real key for Jams is something that's louder than ecveryone else!

(I'd never really do that...)

Mmmmmm . . .

Mesa Subway
Peavey Classic 30
Fender Princeton

Any one of those three would/could be my plug n'play amps !!!

Re: Best Amp For Jams

My mesa Mark III combo. It owns almost any other combo I have come across.

The cleans sound great at any volume, but it does have to be somewhat cranked for the OD/high gain to really breathe and sound defined/articulate.

Other than that, I'd say a Peavy Classic 30.

Re: Best Amp For Jams

Probably a Blues Junior or the Trace Elliot Velocette.

I prefer the Blues Junior because I always see it as kind of a Wolf in Sheeps clothing after the mods, tubes and speaker change.

More than once I've had someone approach me after I was playing through it and mention that it sounds NOTHING like Blues Juniors they've played through!

Re: Best Amp For Jams

tons of choices stated here; I vote for the vox valvetronix since it is tough to say what type of music you will be jamming with - so you would need something versatile. I play either folk music (acoustic guitar) or hard rock/stoner rock/metal so if I play electric I would need at least a 2x12 fo sure. Versatile amps like the dual recto or mark IV would cut it imo for that style.

+1 except my small combo of choice is the HRDx.

Yup, At 44 Lbs. & 40 watts. The HRD offers a good light to loud ratio. Add a SFX-03 and a S-S-H Strat, And your ready for just about ANY THING they throw at you.:smokin:
