Best amp for my money?

I am buying a amp within the next 8 months, I only want to spend less than 400, I play mostly metal, rock and all the other variations of them. I want get something with serious tone for the money, and if it doesn't have good on board effects than it needs to be on the cheaper side so I can get pedals and such. At first I looked into Line 6, but I have a feeling I could do better sound wise. I want at the least a 15 watt.

Re: Best amp for my money?

I6 knows what he's talking about. those things sound good and cover a lot of tones.

I also enjoy the fender mustang III, IV, and V.

If you just wanna do metal and rock you could try the Jet City 20W head and cab, and a boss DS-1. That thing isn't the best clean tone... but the overdrive on it is as ballsy and modern as I've heard from an amp that size/price.

Re: Best amp for my money?

If you are looking to spend no more than $400, then get a Fender Mustang III

It will do the trick for you.

Re: Best amp for my money?

Yup. Get the Valvetronix. The JCA20 is great sounding, but it is not exactly the best at versatility if that's what you want.

Re: Best amp for my money?

Versatility is overrated. A core tone that you find most appealing is more important, IMO.

Do what I6 usually suggests with guitars, and take your wallet, and ears. Don't worry about brands or anything other than your price point and the core tone.

Exactly right. I was looking for an amp along the same lines as you, and I got the Blackstar HT-5H. I like that amp, and it's pretty versatile, and it's great for recording, but most of my playing is with my JCA20H. It's got a great core tone, and I hardly ever reach for any knob other than volume.

Versatility is overrated.

JCA 22 H...

I dunno whether or not it is that versatile... but maaaan! SLO100 drive channel at those prices... Makes me itchy.

Re: Best amp for my money?

For what you play, the Valvetronix is a good choice. But they have a continuously variable power control that lets you run a 100 watter at less than 2 watts or anywhere in between. Might as well get more power for when you may want it.

If you're interested, I have a brand new VT100 (less than 5 hours bedroom playing time). I have too many amps and not enough room in my home for them. I'll be glad to give you a good deal on it. PM me if you're interested.

It's mainly a product of the bedroom guitarists i think, and cover bands. I don't see bands at gigs really f*** around too much with line 6 or a lot of channel switching.

Could you save maybe $100 more? Cause I think a laney AOR would do you well for... years probably.

they sound like this

one of them uses one, can't remember which

Are you gigging? Playing with a band? Or are you bedroom jamming? These all are factors.

Re: Best amp for my money?

I would say to save up for a decent amp with a good core tone. you really don't need to worry about pedals now. They won't help you if you don't have a good amp to begin with. You can't shine crap so don't expect pedals to. All the amps i suggest really depends on if you are just in a bedroom practicing or want to use it down the line to be in a metal band.

if its rock and metal, this is the answer.
the first channel is the same as the 20, so it will do classic rock to 80s metal with a passion. Add the soldano lead channel for your higher gain? wow

Re: Best amp for my money?

I've seen people on here recommending the Vox Valvetronix for years. I finally had the chance to play one of the $200-$250 ones a couple of months ago. That was some of the worst sounding crap I've ever heard in my life. Even the $60 Behringer V-Amp I used to have blew it away. I don't know why peiople think those things sound so great.

A used Peavey 6505 combo for your metal/hard rock needs

Hold on everyone.

Are you the kid that wants to buy a $1500 "Custom Made" guitar?

So you want to play a $1500 "Custom Made" guitar through a $400 amp like a line 6 or a crap SS VOX?

You have your priorities wrong son.

See if this makes sense. “You can play a $100 guitar through a $1000 amp and get some good tone. But if you play a $1000 guitar through a $100 amp it is going to sound like you are playing a $100 guitar through a $100 amp.” If you have the $1500 for a guitar and $400 for an amp that puts you at $1900. You can get a killer “off the shelf” guitar and an awesome higher end amp for that kind of money. The kind of amp that you’ll keep and cherish throughout your adult life. Not a craptasic solid state clone of what you’d maybe like to sound like.
