Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??
UGH! The lack of Tool knowledge around here is disgusting.... :laugh2:
When I saw Justin "Adam" Chancellor live, he definitely wasn't using a Music Man (it was a Wal). A handful of people said the EQ at that show was too bass-heavy, but I thought the experience as a whole was mind-altering. Yeah, great bass tone, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Some of my favorite players are Roger Waters, John Paul Jones, Duff McKagen, Chi Cheng, Steve Harris, Jason Newsted, Dee Dee Ramone, Krist Novoselic, David Ellefson, Mike Dirnt and Billy Sheehan. I love those guys for many reasons... one of which is tone.
I think Geddy Lee is WAY overrated. He can play with the best of him, but I don't like his extremely active-sounding bass tone and I don't think he's the pinnacle of bassdom. Also, Les Claypool is the MAN when it comes to chops and cool, idiosyncratic songwriting. His tone in and of itself, however, never impressed me.
