Best Bass Guitar Tone??

What band, or even better, musician, do you feel has the best bass tones?

I would argue Geddy Lee's or Les Claypool's. Geddy's for his fat, punchy, dark tones. Les's for the amazing thump and dynamics of his bass. Your opinions?

Definetely, and if you don't believe it, just take a yonder at Lateralus. Songs to look into: The Grudge, Schism, Parabola, Disposition, & Reflection.

Jaco Pastorius, Chris Squire. Yeah, Geddy Lee. I saw Rush on their Vapor Trails tour and his tone was simply amazing! The BEST bass tone I've ever heard live. And outdoors too!

Steve Harris, listen to Blood on the worlds hands, and you know what i mean!
Tom Araya, best Metal bass player? Listen to Praise of death!

Rock:
Roger Waters, doesn't really have a "sound" but he's one of my favourites.
John Deacon, what can i say, wonderful!

And for last Paul McCartney and Sting of course, maybe not the "best" bass players, but fantastic songwriters!

Karl Alvares of the Descendents, no question about it has 'the' ultimate basstone and he is a sick player too.

Jesse from Lagwagon has a kickass tone, one of the fattest bass tones I've ever heard.

It's hard to beat some of the reggae guys, though!

i cant think of his name off the top of my head, but Iron Maiden's bassist was amazing i loved the tone and how prominent it was...deff the best in my book or at least favorite

I like Geezer's tone a lot on later Sabbath like Heaven & Hell..it was too fuzzy for me on NIB.
