i cant think of his name off the top of my head, but Iron Maiden's bassist was amazing i loved the tone and how prominent it was...deff the best in my book or at least favorite

steve harris?

yeah he's got a sick tone! i got his sig set of strings for my bass ( really thick flatwounds - baztardz wouldnt fit in the nut!)

Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??

Obvious choices:

Steve Harris

Geddy Lee

Chris Squire

Not so obvious:

Michael Anthony (Van Halen) It seems he gets a lot of flak but I think he's a good bassist and his tone on the first four VH albums is f***ing great.

Cronos (Venom) Monstorous bass tone, will shatter your windows if you play any of the first four Venom albums too loud.

Lemmy (Motorhead) Need I say anything about the mighty Lemmy that has not already been said?

Cheers,

CJ

No Contest! Cliff Burton, RIP! Listen to "Orion" off of Master of Puppets. At exactly 6:36 Mr. Burton unleashes the most fierce bass solo ever recorded!

a few of my favorites: geddy lee, jason newstead, john paul jones, and cliff burton for his awesome use of distortion and wah.
Totally forgot about Burton, definetely a contender! Cool!

Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??

While I'm not a big Nirvana fan, I always did like Krist Novaselic's bass tone alot. However, it's pretty hard to beat Doug Pinnick's (King's X) bass tone. It just has all the right everything. Of course that 12 string bass on some of those song's didn't hurt anything either.;)

Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??

i always liked john alderete (racer x, mars volta), he changes his bass tone depending on the style, and its usually really good

Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??

Oh yeah....Greg Chaisson from Badlands had a serious kickin bass tone.

THANK you! I knew the name looked weird but I couldn't figure out why...

And not to brag too much, but I have been very happy with my own tone on bass for quite a while now...

Don't worry about it at all! Feel good! Finding your tone is the ultimate goal, a goal that you feel you've met. Congradulations and more power to ya! :fing2:

Re: Best Bass Guitar Tone??

Geddy Lee on everything up until "Signals" with his Ric and Chris Squire on everything until "Drama".

Nathan Easton all the funky stuff and Stanley Clark's Alembic.

anyone who uses a gibson grabber :)

I haven't seen anyone use one of those for years. Last one I saw using one was the bass player with Green Day on the "Basket Case" video, but I'll be damned if that doesn't sound like a Rickenbacker.

My faves: Steve Harris, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Paul McCartney, Mel Schacher, Dan Hartman....
