Hey everybody,

i have tried almost every pickup in the world and have always come back
to the Duncan JB in the bridge and Duncan 59 in the neck.
I am building a custom guitar.
what is the best body wood that will sound the best with the duncan JB/59
with a floyd rose bridge and all maple neck/maple fingerboard.

Re: Best body wood for JB/59 ?

Hmmmm... it seems like a very bright combo in a guitar with pretty bright features...

Will a chambered mahogany body with a spruce top work with a Floyd? :dunno:

Tonal wood descriptions can be found here, as well as some other sites.

I like the JB/'59 combo in my maple body/maple neck/rosewood fretboard semi-hollow guitar. For a solid body guitar I'd probably go with something in the mellower range to offset the all maple neck/fretboard and Floyd. Pot/cap values will also play a part in the sound. Search posts by Blueman335 for good descriptions of how pots/caps/magnets will affect tone. I'd try to recreate that here, but he says it better!

Re: Best body wood for JB/59 ?

i realize that
1)JB/59 pickups
2)maple neck/maple fingerboard
3)floyd rose
4)500k pots

will be very bright but those 4 things are a must for me on the guitar.
so i am thinking about a body wood that would make this guitar more balance
tonally.

If you're not fixed on the Strat body shape a single cutaway like a Tele or a Les Paul or a bigger body like an Explorer should help you balance the brightness.

Re: Best body wood for JB/59 ?

JB is not bright like a Screaming Demon or a T-Top Humbucker, the JB has a high mid spike. I liked it very much in a in an alder body with a maple neck.

Re: Best body wood for JB/59 ?

which is better alder or alder/maple top?
for petrucci/evh/lynch type of tones?

Re: Best body wood for JB/59 ?

I like them best in Alder bodies. It's a very popular combination in the 80's shred/metal tone. You should also look into maple bodies as well. JB is a bright, but balanced pickup that won't sound ice picky no matter what body you put it in. Had them in Alder and Maple and they sound great and aggressive!

Alder FTW. Poplar also.
The SH2-n neck sounds good in a maple guitar neck ive heard.
