There are millions of clones made by Chinese factories that are very well made, very affordable, and have their own brand names that don't sound bad either.
People do buy those and I've been tempted as well (as an aside: Keipro is IME the best value "modern strat")
But that's the difference. A Chibson, saying "Gibson" on the headstock (and similar) are literally fakes that can easily change from "I just want this but I don't have the money" to "I can be coy and scam some retard with this"
I never really cared too much about copyright and trademarks and all that (although Larry DiMarzio is probably in leagues with some witches considering that everytime my friend and I plan to get double cream pickups from somebody else, we never managed to), but copying the logo onto something that it isn't is 100% going to be used to scam people somwhere along the line.
I agree with ehdwuld 100% here. Greco made guitars that at a glance looked like Gibsons, but a quick inspection up close shows that it's actually a "Gneco". That's a tell. That's useful.
I think it's very much anybody's right what they buy and what they choose to do with their property, but IMO the only way to deal with a chibson is to either debadge it before you sell it, or to just keep it to yourself for life.
