best combo amp?

Re: best combo amp?

I really enjoyed playing a Budda 30-watter; thought it sounded amazing. I don't own a combo amp, tho; have no use for one. For practice/quiet playing, I use a Korg PXR 4.

Re: best combo amp?

I Love my old Roland JC-120. Its got a great clean for Jazz,R&B or Blues. Its got a great Reverb,Vibrato and Chours. Its a very under rated amp.

I also love my Mesa SubWay Rocket Reverb also. Its another under rated amp thats got world class tube tone for days.

Re: best combo amp?

In the studio I play a Marshall Valvestate VS100. It blows me away! I think I'm going to buy the AVT100 which is the equivalent to this older model.

Re: best combo amp?

I've heard about that, but the old vs is amazing. I'll go to a guitar shop and try one soon. I want to compare it to the older one.

Re: best combo amp?

Metal:
Peavey 5150

Everything else:
Carvin X-60A on Bright channel

I would like to try some more Fender RI's, because I bet they have the best cleans.

Re: best combo amp?

My '59 Fender Bandmaster 3x10". I've never played a more respnsive amp, the range of sounds and dynamics you can get simply by varying your pick attack is amazing. Controlled feedback is effortless.

Re: best combo amp?

Marty Friedman of Mega Death uses a Crate GLX212 combo for backstage warmups. 120wtts, 3ch, 2x12, w/16 DSP effects - METAL

Re: best combo amp?

What about the Marshall JCM2000 TSL 122? I've heard some good things about it, but I want to know what you guys think, since I'm going to be buying a combo amp soon. I don't want to buy some crap and regret it later.

Re: best combo amp?

Engl Screamer 50 with EH tubes. Very nice cleans, hot well defined distortion (not too compressed) not really for metal but cool for hardcore with a LP loaded with Custom/59. I really like it.

Re: best combo amp?

Some of my favorite combo amps of all time:

Vox AC30 RI w/2x12
JCM 800 2204 50 watt w/2x12
59 Fender Bassman RI w/4x10
65 Fender Super Reverb w/4x10
66 Fender Pro Reverb w/2x12

All 30 to 50 watts and totally gig-able...and $1000 or way less.

Re: best combo amp?

I love my fender hot rod deluxe 40 watts 1x12" weber blue dog. I also switched out the 12ax7 in the v3 spot for a 12at7. So now it has two 12ax7 in the preamp stage only and the 12at7 in the phase inversion spot. This seemed to really smooth out the drive channel to my liking. Making it not as harsh. The weber blue dog increased the clarity and also seemed to smooth out the tone, making it sound fuller with a tighter bottom. This is, of course, how I preceive it. This amp has worked well for me with the band. It cuts through no problem. We play mainly classic rock and blues. I wouldn't recommend this amp for metal on it's own. For that I would think you'd need a metal zone and the clean channel, or a gnx/gt-6 type multifx processor through the power amp in and bypass the amp's pre-amp. I use the amp's clean and drive channels without any distortion box for most of the blues stuff we do, and I kick in a barber burn unit on the clean channel for more of the classic rock stuff. I love this setup it is very versatile for me and easy to setup. Just my 2 cents on the subject. Cheers! :beerchug:

Re: best combo amp?

I love the combo I just got, a Carlson Turbo Pup. It's a Fender-style preamp mated to an EL34 power section. 35w, 2x10", three-knob reverb, it really sings. They're described as a Fender-meets-Hiwatt type of sound.

Re: best combo amp?

I use a Marshall 900 50 wat combo A/B'd with a 69 super reverb. Works really great for what I do. But I goota agree with Johnny C the best combo is a deluxe hands down.
