Best Floyd rose Superstrat manufacturer - suggestions?

Re: Best Floyd rose Superstrat manufacturer - suggestions?

Yeah, I have to say that recent production Jackson Soloist necks are probably my favorite neck out of every single guitar I've ever played. For my hands, they are the perfect thickness and shape. I also much prefer the wider nut width on a Soloist compared to the 1 5/8" that ESP almost always uses. I also have a late model RR-1 and it seems a bit different than my SL1T, but it is similar and also is a great feeling neck. From what I understand, Jackson does NOT use CNC, so there is most likely variance from guitar to guitar.

Yeah, I prefer the 43mm (my Ibanez) nut too than the 42mm one (My LTD). Easier chording...Close to nut positions are mostly meant for chords that's why 43mm for me.;)

I have the impression that Jackson uses different necks for Soloists than for their V shaped guitars(????). Never cross-checked that though.

The King V uses a really thin "speed neck", from what I've read. A Soloist neck is thicker, like a 60's LP more or less, and a Rhoads is something like that.

Re: Best Floyd rose Superstrat manufacturer - suggestions?

The USA Jacksons have definetly the tightest building quality of all production guitars that I know of. They are simply amazing. Regular Jacksons have 2 different neck profiles, the speed neck which is used on Kelly(KE-2), King V(KV-2), dinky(DK) and Warrior(WR-1) and regular used on soloist(SL-series) and Rhoads. Speed profile is somewhere between gibson 60's and strat C profile. The speed neck is quite flat but as flat as Ibanez necks are. The regular neck profile is pretty similar to gibson slim taper, might be a bit rounder but not by much.

Sadly, no. They're incredible players though. I was blown away the first time I laid my hands on one.

When I was about to buy my first decent electric guitar I came across a black one. I was stunned but had no money for it (they'd been giving it for 1200 - 1500 euros or so). It was around 2000 (the year) I think. Strange that the store (ESP dealer) had one of them. They had it there for quite a few years later too, I don't know if they still do. HM strat stands for Heavy Metal strat if I'm not mistaken.

Were all of them made of basswood?

Ya know, I don't know actually. My buddy's felt a little too heavy to be basswood. I always thought they were alder. I could be wrong though.

I found an article in Wikipedia about them. It says they were basswood and some of them were alder.

You can get a nice custom Charvel San Dimas for under $3k. If you want a speedy fender-ish neck, I'd request a Warren DeMartini neck profile. It's just a tad thicker than a regular San Dimas.

I've played some custom Dean's and they're great guitars, but cost too darn much and most of their USA superstrats have a Wizard II profile neck.

For $1999 there's the Ibanez JS2400

or if you wanna save a bit of money, just buy a production model charvel.

Suhr and Anderson are worthy of consideration.

Is there a big difference in tone/quality between the regular production charvels and the custom shop charvels?

Suhr Modern, probably has a poly finish though. Not sure if you're going to find a Floyded super strat with nitro unless it's a custom job.

Charvel if you like funky, flourescent colors
Cavin if you want in "your way"
