What's your best guitar tonewood???

No wenge ... my private stash will be disapointed (I also have a nice bit of Hard Maple kicking around as well.

But for working with and smell ... mahogany type woods. (Lauan, Khaya, Makore)

If it ain't broke, there's no need to fix it with fancy woods.

Neck thru - maple cap on mahogany

Bolt on - Solid Alder

Necks - Rosewood or Maple on electrics
Ebony or Rosewood on acoustics.


Anything else is a luxury and a crapshoot, tonally.

nothing beats the chunkiness of maghogany......although lately i been leaning towards alder cause of strats....::sigh::

I abstain. There are so many wonderful tonewoods that I shouldn't have to limit myself to one flavor. My choice for MVT (most versatile tonewood) is mahogany: good for electrics and good for acoustics.

All I have is Tasmanian Oak, which I found out yesterday was the sonic equivelant of Ash.

Electrics, I love maple, rosewood, and ebony are all great bt sometimes I find ebony too blunt and maple too bright. Maple has a sharp attack.

I love a good piece of rosewood though.

Swamp Ash, Ash and Mahogany are my faves.

I've only had the pleasure of bass Adler and mahogany. Which they all are mine. Love the Adler and mahogany. Personally I love playing my bass I will never own another agan nlwss it's good

I like swamp ash for strat style bodies, not as warm as alder but has more attack like ash.

Well I will too just to say how silly the poll at the top is.
It's like pick your favorite woods, but without any specified position for said woods. Just weird to do a poll with such vagueness.
