I'm thinking I'd like a headstock tuner, but I'm pretty clueless as to what to get and I don't want to spend alot of money on one..

Your opinions on what to get...Say $25 or so..

Snark. I have the black one. Got it on Amazon for under $10. I want to try the Planet Waves one too. Heard that one is pretty good.

The one I have, the 8, is chromatic. Not sure about the others.

Re: Best Headstock Tuner For Least Amount Of Cash?

The snarks are good and accurate.... Using my credit card cashback I got a planet waves ns-2 mini on a recommendation from Cam (gibson175). It is smaller than most and doesn't look bad on the headstock like so many. They clip on really tight and seem to be pretty accurate. I didn't technically spend any money on it but I still would like something good and it seems like it could be great. Just shipped yesterday so hopefully I get it soon.

Ok. The sn1 is tuned for guitar/bass. The sn2 is chromatic. The sn8 is chromatic but faster response, brighter display, and tighter tolerance.

Re: Best Headstock Tuner For Least Amount Of Cash?

Thanks so much guys...I think the newer 8 model is the one I'd like...So you don't leave the tuner on during a gig/playing etc.do you?

I do. It's at the back of the headstock. Nobody cares anyway. Heck, I saw George Lynch recently on a live vid and he had one on his.

Orb tuner. We sell tons of these at the shop I work at...just ordered a couple dozen yesterday. I use them on my bench all the time. They work just as well or better than the Snark (which I've had/have several, too), but they have a much more durable tuner-to-clip attachment. If you drop a Snark on a hard floor, chances are the little plastic "connectors" will break. The Orb's tuner body is basically bolted to the clip. The clip is also a better design than the Snark.

Orbs are not as widely available as the Snark, though, so you won't find them in every shop. Also, the battery is harder to install than the Snark, but that just takes a little practice.

I always show customers the function and features of both the Snark and the Orb, and 99.995% of the time they choose the Orb.

COOL more choices...I'm reading through the reviews now..Thx.

Not at all to derail this thread but since there seems to be a lot of first hand knowledge in this thread...

How accurate are these little headstock tuners??

I mean I haven't seen one yet post specs on line and that alone gives me pause.

I know some guys will say "They are only 12 bucks" or whatever but how good of a deal is it if it sort of sucks?!

Re: Best Headstock Tuner For Least Amount Of Cash?

The couple snarks I had were very accurate and about as quick as my Boss TU-2 to detect how off a string was.

The sn8 I have is about as accurate and quick as the pedal tuners I've used, which were the tu-2, planet waves chromatic, and the tv electronics polytune (which I still use). I've never had an accuracy issue until the battery drained down (expected).

I wouldn't get the NS-2 tuner. I have it, and after about a month of using it, it wouldn't turn on. Bought a new battery, and it still wouldn't work. It started working again, but it's been hit or miss. I might get the SN-8 if it's any better.

Re: Best Headstock Tuner For Least Amount Of Cash?

That sucks but snark might have taken care of you. I had 2 NS-2s and both worked fine. One I have had for over a year.

I use the Snark (red one), a Turbo Tuner ST-200 and the Kord PB. The Snark is very accurate.
