Best Humbucker For my Strat

Blue Note Blaze

Greetings All! This is my first post here. I need some help with my Guitar. I have a Fender Highway One Stratocaster with Alder body and rosewood neck. The biridge has been plugged and set to hardtail. Right now there are the stock Alnico 3 Single coil pickups. What I want to do is create a Hum-Single-Hum configuration and am currently working on the Bridge Pickup. I want to be able to coil-tap the pickup and still maintane a pretty true single-coil tone too because I play a little country picking. I have done plenty of research but am still not sure what to do.

The sound I would like to accomplish (ballpark) is an ANGUS YOUNG type tone for Classic Rock and Blues. I know that the guitar and the player have alot to do with that sound and fully understand that. I just want a Humbucker that would help to produce that tone from a Fender Stratocaster. I am currently using .10 guage strings and would be willing to use .11's if that is necessary. I am using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Tube Amp to run through with NO effects pedals as well.

I have been told to get JB, Alnico 2 Pro, 59 Model, Seth Lover, and Pearly Gates. But I am not sure where to start. I have listened to them on the website and used the tone wizard but am still not sure. So any detailed advice from knowledgable people would be welcomed. Thank you.

Re: Best Humbucker For my Strat

JB=too shrill.
Pearly Gates=Sheer Tonal Goodness

+1 altho i absolutely love the JB and i dont find it shrill at all.. it might be too high output and bright for your needs... i would Go with 59 or pearly gates as suggested above. You want something more paf style for what your asking, meaning something with moderate outpout arround 8-9k ish. If you have the cash for it.. you could also ask for a Brobucker from the SD custom shop.. people say it gets Angus tones dead on.

Re: Best Humbucker For my Strat

Once again it comes down to the Pots you use with the guitar. A JB doesnt sound shrill with a 250K vol pot...where a 59 sounds dull with this.
Interested to here a PG with a 250K vol pot.
So you need to find the compromise... change you Vol pot and risk the sound of your single coil strat pups or find a pup that matches with the same electronics ..or some fancy wiring.

Re: Best Humbucker For my Strat

Look for a Pearly Gates Plus of Fender. These are Custom made by Seymour Duncan and come stock with the Big Apple Strat and the Lone Star Strat.

Re: Best Humbucker For my Strat

For Angus, I'd go 59 or maybe a Custom 5. But getting Angus out of a Strat is kinda a losing proposition. Get an SG would be your best bet.
