Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

Like suggestions on what could be the best Humbucker with alnico 2 magent for Les Paul.
I usually play with high gain amp on my korg pedal.
Gonna use all tube amp like marshall plexi but cranked when i can afford it,,

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

only suggestions can be made - there tons of really good pups out there.
here of course Seymours!
why not a Neck PG and a Bridge 59er (or PG/B) ? very good alround team, my favourite.

I have no doubt that a PG neck and a 59bridge will make an excellent team.
But i´m going for the alnico 2 on both positions.
I have the burstbucker pro´s now which has the alnico 5 magnet and approx 8,5dc resistance so i´m looking for a alnico 2 humbucker with similar output or slightly more output.
:)

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

Why not swap out the A5 magnets for A2's? That would give you the Burstbucker 1&2, which to me sound much better than the Burstbucker Pro's. They're great PAF copies, really.

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

Depends on how bright or dark the guitar is... all my guitar are real bright... so AN Pro II and CC work good for mine or DM Norton/Air Norton. But if it's darker... Pearly Gates!

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

I think the Les Paul is dark but very warm sounding.
I live in sweden so don´t know any place for the mag swap nor do i have the knowledge on how to do it myself.
Did contact the SD custom shop and i can have the pickup made to my wishes :)
The Burstbucker 1 & 2 sounds wonderfull in the Les Paul Custom Alpine White :)

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

I know you want A2; however, the Air Bucker pickups from Dimarzio give an A2 vibe.

The Air Norton/Air Zone combo works really well in a Les Paul as would the PAF 36th set.

Thanks for the tip, i´m sure they´re a god match but it´s has to be the alnico 2 magnet.

Thanks to all of you for the info about the pups.
I´ll go with at standard Pearly Gates neck & brigde and if i get a jobb a custom ordered pearly gates brigde which will be overwound to about 10k and have a little more midrange...

Gibson '57 Classics are the smoothest, best-sounding A2 PU I've tried.

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

SD '78, SD Antiquities and WCR crossroads.

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

More alternatives, seems like they´re all great pickups.
Thanks to all of you for the suggestions.
If you have any link to a video or sound clip when you play with your alnico 2 humbucker please post it...

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

IMHO any Duncan's will be as good of better than BB Pro's. I use alnico II buckers in all my bucker guitars...I have a set of Antiquties in my R8 LP, Pearly Gates set in my Moderne and an Alnico II Pro neck and Custom Custom bridge in my SG 2000...all are great but different.

If I were you I'd just try a set of Pearly Gates...no need to go CS unless you feel like a standard set of pickups is missing something...save time and money and just get your hands on a set of Pearly Gates...easily one of the best PAF copies out there IMHO!

Re: Best Humbucker with Alnico 2 magnet for Les Paul

Pearly Gates or Seth Lovers. PG for more power and aggressive tone.

Seems like the Pearly Gates are the best choice for me.
One question, what does "IMHO" means???
Thanks for the help none the less
