Best Jimmy Page tone ever.... MPG

Re: Best Jimmy Page tone ever.... MPG

Hello,

That clip got around a while ago on a different board, I agree Pagy sounds great...That is (as you can see) the Dragon Tele, which is a slightly modded 1959, a Tone Bender Mk II, a Vox Wah, but he is using WEM amps, the amps in question are the bigger amps that WEM made, from the looks of it (and I know no one wants to hear this) I think it is a Solid State head. I anyone has more info on the amps used in that clip let me know! :laugh2:

I think Page sounded way better on that Tele than he ever did on a Paul.

I agree. Its pretty interesting to note just how much variation there is on various early Zep recordings, even though he's using the same gear (Tele/Tonebender/whatever amp). This one is smooth and deep, and its the best I've heard. The BBC recordings are the same type of gear (different amp) but a lot thinner and brighter. The Les Paul tones he got, especially on The Song Remains The Same, aren't nearly as cool, IMHO.

Im sure this is gonna step on a lot of toes and piss people off but...Jimmy had one of the worst Les Paul/Marshall tones ever(and it got worse and worse as time went on), and to top it off he played lots worse on a Paul as well...listen to him on the first record...jimmy played much better whae he had to fight a Telecaster or fight an acoustic guitar, IMO Jimmy is a very tight acoustic player...not slopy at all...this is not the case what he weilds his mighty Paul.
