Best Les Paul Copy

Hello Guys/Gals,
I'm looking into getting a Les Paul Copy. I don't have 2K to spend on the real deal, so I thought a good copy would satisfy my GAS until the Money Fairy pays me a visit.
That said, in ALL of your opinions what is the best Les Paul copy out there for under $750
I was looking into the ESP LTD EC-400 it looks pretty cool plus it's Duncanized.
Any help will be appreciated!!
Thanks again,
Lou Driver

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

prs tremonti SE.... i used to own 1 and they are really nice guitars. You can find them on ebay for 3-400, that leaves you at least $300 to upgrade the pickups and whatnot

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

old stock agile.

theres no comparison for the price.

personally the neck on the tremonti se is too HUGE for me.. technically its just a "single cut" but if i remember right PRS just got sued for the single cut so i guess it is a les paul copy now

Tokai Love Rock. Great bang for the buck, look just like the real thing.

Me too! I put a set of Duncan's (Jazz & JB and replace the tone pots with push/pull pots for coil splitting) in my nephew's Epi LP Custom and that guitar is now totally professional. Plays beautifully too! Lew

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

An Orville by Gibson would be nice as well. Orvilles, too. A nice "lawsuit" LP would be a great bet.

Tokai used to make gibson's under the table, and people could not tell the difference. Tokai is considered to be the ultimate Gibson rip off.

What's wrong with the new ones (except for that new headstock...)

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

I've got a Epiphone Les Paul Classic Plus, cost me $500, I've spent about $300 in upgrades (HSC, SD pickups & electronics) and I wouldn't trade/sell it for anything. One of the guys I jam with offered me $1100 for it, of course I said no.

Heritage all the way on ebay

I'd go Heritage, too. Made in the USA at the former Gibson facility in Kalamazoo by former Gibson employees.

It's ready to go. You won't have to upgrade anything. Quality hardware and generally pick-ups are OK. You can always put in some Duncans.

Lag Roxanne - great double cut LP made in France
Probably hard to get in USA

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

Easy question to answer. Without doubt the best Les Paul copies were made by Max and Chris Derrig in the 80's - but they now cost about $15000-20000 and are rare as rocking horse sh*t!!!!

Coming back to reality, if you're taking as close as possible to a GIBSON Les Paul, in design, quality, sound, look etc etc, then the Orvilles, Tokai Love Rocks, Greco's etc are as good as you'l find. Most are far superior to the Epiphones...

I've got three Gibson Les Pauls. I've also just got an Orville that I'll be upgrading with Alnico II's. Their build quality is excellent, with upgraded pups, switches and electronics, you can';t go wrong for the money - usually around $500-$700US on ebay...Here's a couple of pics...

Re: Best Les Paul Copy

I played an Epiphone LP Custom before that I really liked. Recently played the standard LP and thought it played well. ESP makes some nice ones as well. I played one awhile back and it wasn't too bad either.
