The Custom Custom is king of those flute-y sustain-y solos. I like it in every guitar I've ever tried it in.
Agreed. I even love it more with an alnico3 instead of 2, to have even less string pull and a more open, airy tone. But then again, the alnico3 is one of my favorite magnets.
On topic.
Pearly is bright with a sweet edge to it. Or: it's a pickup with a healthy midrange chew to it topped with a hot sizzle in the top end. I do not like this pickup, at all. I don't know what it is, it's just too hairy for my taste.
59; honky. Needs an alnico4 to work well, in both positions.
Jazz: used to hate this pickup, but now I'm loving it. With an alnico2, it's sweet and creamy . alnico 5: bright, cutting, aggressive. alnico 8: instant Michael Schenker tone. Insanely good pickup, imho highly underrated. Alnico8 in a Jazz bridge is one of my favorite pickups.
Seth Lover: sweetness and transparency all over.
Antiquity: slight midscoop, honky, but it has a lovely woody feel to it. Great pickup, to be honest.
I'd go for a Slash bridge pickup in your situation. It's got the warmth without sacrificing attack or clarity.
